I've always said that race day is about execution. I think everything in this article is spot on. Especially the Line. You WILL get to the point where you want to quit and it will be extremely hard to talk yourself out of quitting. And the comment about the run full of fit guys walking and talking about their awesome bike splits. I ran past a few of those guys.
Me on race day: In our experience, 80-90 percent of the Ironman field doesn't know how to race. If you find yourself doing the opposite of everyone else, you're doing the right thing. If Jimmy is "king of this random hill" at mile 46 of the bike...don't join him! Lots of people passing you in the first 40 miles? That's good, don't join in. Going backwards through the field on a hill? Great!
Also me (especially the last sentence!): On the swim, the Box is the space your body occupies in the water: focus on your form and the rest will come. On the bike, the box is probably about one aid station long. On the run, the box begins as 2-3 aid stations long but often diminishes to "from here to the next lampost/manhole cover/mail box."
I've read this before and I love it! I just said to a buddy of mine who is racing TX that there's no such thing as a good bike split if you walk the marathon - I couldn't remember where that came from, ha! He has history of going out way too fast, particularly on the bike, so I will aim to not do whatever he is doing
That was so interesting. That makes IMs sound...doable. (which obviously they are, because people do them, I just mean for someone like me, who only really likes running )

Uhhhh. You know who I am, right? If I can do it, you can smash it.

The problem is that no one really likes running in an Ironman!
