So, I ran yesterday . . . on a snowy trail, probably a lot of the time on my toes, and I did slip a few times. Today, the outside of my left foot, from the pink toe to the middle of my foot/almost the hell hurts. I spent 20 minutes tonight foam rolling my calves, shins, foot, etc. My podiatrist isn't open on Tuesdays and I'm trying to get in for Wednesday. Any other advice aside from RICE? Do you think I could still lift? Maybe do the elliptical? I'm in the middle of training for a half (3/16) and really don't want to lose my momentum.
I've had it happen before (2-3 times in the last year). I still don't know what I did to cause it although I suspect changes in my gait from my knee problems and surgeries. The pain went away by itself after a few days. I made sure to stay off of my feet as much as possible and wear flats and supportive shoes til it eased up.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was training for my half. I actually discovered that changing the way I laced my shoes made a huge difference because I was almost rolling out on the side of my left foot when I was running and tightening the laces helped to pull my foot in and keep it from rolling I guess? I also rested for a few days and that seemed to help. Just try to rest and see if it will go away on its own. Good luck on your upcoming half!
Thanks, ladies! Resting is SO hard, ha. I do think I may need to try my laces differently - my feet felt weird all weekend. I know there's some tutorial floating around Pinterest. May even take a ride to the local running store and see if they can show me.
