My plan for Albany was to either a) pace a friend for the full (break 4:00), or b) race the half, and then jump in to pace her at mile 20. I did option A for a friend a few years ago (San Diego RnR). I also chose to have a coffee and breakfast burrito during the wait to meet him at mile 20. Yes, it was as bad as you'd imagine. At least we could commiserate those last 6 miles since we were both suffering.
I did the Get in Gear 10k last year and the course is familiar and fairly flat - but I've ran races along the river on both sides in that area a few times now, so I am debating the Lake Mtka. But, that one is a little more rolling hills and a bridge over the lake. Can be windy since it's open. Two friends set PR's at LM last year and loved it, so I am motivated by their enthusiasm for it.
ETA: one of my friends is running Lake Wobegon, too!

This is what I'm afraid of. I selfishly chose option b after checking with her because 1) I'd love a half PR, and 2) after looking at the results from the last two years, an age group award could be possible. Then I realized it was probably the more painful option, but I'm going to have to suck it up & keep it to myself to keep her in a positive place. I will keep better fueling options in mind! LOL
Another friend mentioned wanting to jump on the course with her at mile 20 as well, but she's a talker, and on long runs, she tends to grate on the nerves of the girl running the full. I'm imagining myself in the final miles of basically a 19 mile tempo run, and having to run interference between the two of them. lol Fun times for sure!

boston340- I tried to find a link to the exact top I bought but I am thinking they may be discontinued, since I bought them at the UA outlet. I hate things tight around my neck, so they are v, almost even a scoop, neck. And I like a hood in case my ears get cold during windy parts of my long run. But the last mile of my usual spot are super sunny, so I was thrilled to find button up sleeves. I bought a few of the same on the clearance rack.
hannahb- We'll have to plan to meet up at the race! It's sold out now!
We are going to Playa Conchal, which is on the pacific side, pretty far north. I am super excited- but hoping to get out before the storm that's being forecasted!

breezy8407- Both sound like good choices, though it seems like Get in Gear can be notorious for yucky weather. I think it was nice last year though? I suppose both April & May can be hit or miss in the weather dept.

It was really nice for Get in Gear last year, but you are right. Everyone said it was the nicest it has been in years. And yeah - late April/early May can be tricky.
The guy running is a friend from college, so I don't think you would know him. He also did Earth Day a few times - and I think the same year you and I were there together. He loves to talk running so I can give you his twitter info. First year doing Wobegon, but he has done a few fulls now.
Oh and thanks. The daycare thing is unexpected and stressful. I hate being rushed into a huge decision.

S - spinning 60 min M - rest T - 6 mile run (treadmill...blah) W - 4 mile run (treadmill again) Th - 8 mile run (again most likely the TM) F - spinning S- 5 mile run
Any vents/issues/injuries? Other than negative weather that will force me to use the treadmill multiple times this week, nope.
Highlights from last week? Nothing big .....wait yes! I finally got a Garmin and got to use it a bunch last week. I got the 110 and so far I absolutely love it.
Training for the R&B half this weekend, and tentatively the Austin 1020 on 4/13

Vents: I'm kind of in the midst of a post-marathon crisis. I knew it would come in some form or fashion after pushing so hard in training for so long, but it still sucks. I'm having a hard time keeping my ass in gear just in terms of getting out and running because I'm lazy, and I'm fighting this feeling that it doesn't even really matter because obviously I can't run at the same level I have been so I'm going to lose some fitness so what's the point at all, and oh my god I cannot stop eating crap, and I really need to keep running just for my own mental state. I sat in my bed and pouted and formulated a plan last night so I think I'll get back on track soon but ugh.
Highlights: On the other hand I'm really seeing the benefits of all the marathon training now that I've had a couple of weeks to let my body really truly recover from everything. I put up 2 training runs last week at a sub-8 (!!!) pace, and it looks like my easy comfortable pace is now solidly sub-9. And I'm feeling better after 9.5 miles this evening which was the longest I've gone post marathon.

Just don't get cocky by eating a greasy food truck breakfast afterwards and think you'll be fine to run again. (Or maybe I'm the only one that would do that :::shame::: )
