My friend's cousin came to visit him in the dorms when we were in college and insisted that he was a Navy SEAL. He was all of 18 and had enlisted in the Navy about 8 months prior. He kept telling these crazy stories about all the people he had killed and all the missions he'd been on. It was ridiculous.
I never understood why people lie about things like this especially to actual service members. People lie to my husband CONSTANTLY about their service.
I had (HAD) a co-worker tell everyone he was in the military and was a sniper and has PTSD from shooting people. He never made it out of basic and got out on a psych eval. He is a pathological liar. I feel bad for the guy. He's 28 and doesn't have a clue. He also thought his dog had parvo but wouldn't take him to the vet. Turns out the dog ate an SOS pad.
Oh, and my BFF's fiance tells everyone that he was in the AF. Real story - he was in ROTC for two years, got caught with THC in his urine and got kicked out. And he complains that he has astronomical student loans to pay now because he had to give back his ROTC scholarship and isn't the military just so mean...blah blah blah.
Is he devgru? If so I could understand how she could mistake him for a Seal. They work together on a daily basis and some devgru sailors can earn the trident (ie corpsmen). I'd give her the benefit of the doubt that she's confused but that's just me.
