I just got back from seeing my sports doctor. Turns out, my foot is just bruised. However, the pain I'm feeling in my ankle could be my achilles. I go for an MRI tomorrow night.
If you've dealt with an achilles injury - any tips for me? I'm RICEing, taking NSAIDS, etc.
Please tell me I'll be ok and I can still run my half in 5 weeks.
I had some achilles issues this fall. They flared up in late Sept and Oct, and I did still run my half in November. No PR, but I wasn't embarrassed (2:09).
I rested it for a bit, gave up running on consecutive days, and gave up speed work. It was a bummer because it was definitely making me faster, but I just couldn't with it. I asked my ortho for a bright line rule for trying to run through it, and he told me that if I could walk and run without limping, I was ok to continue running on my reduced schedule.
Now I'm trying to build up my calves in the off season to protect my achilles in the next training cycle.

Yeah, you can run it. You've seen my dramz with mine. I didn't run at all (well, okay, like three times) before the Tink half and I was able to run it all without too much trouble.
But then I'd rest the mother EFF out of it, because if there's one thing I've learned in the last year of this shit, it's not to wait.
I (slightly) tore mine back at the beginning of December. My PT told me soft tissue injuries like that take 6-12 weeks to heal, and the best thing was to rest it completely. I rested as much as I could stand, but had to get back in to training.
It's nagging, and I can definitely tell there is still a problem with it. I try not to push too hard, stretch the hell out of my calves, foam roll, ice and take Advil. I notice if I slack off on stretching and rolling, that's when it starts getting angry. I have also forgone all shoes with heels - I wear my sneakers or ballet flats, and that's it.
I know I'm not being smart by not resting it completely, but I'm still so fucking angry it happened (it happened AT PT) that I am being a total pouting child about it.

Thanks for the advice! I never wear heels (I'm a klutz . . . see my OP, ha) and will make sure to do all of that. I'm a pouter, too, so I understand where you're coming from.
