to review our credit files to determine what they can offer us for a refi? They are stating there is a $30 fee for them to review our files, which I don't want to pay, but I will if this is normal procedure.
I'm familiar w/a similar fee that some lenders will charge for a new mortgage pre-approval, so I don't think a $30 fee for what you're doing is probably that unusual.
It is a standard fee for pulling your credit score. They have to pull your credit before they can give you a loan. I am pretty sure that was the fee for each house we bought as well as on out refi last week.
If it's for your credit, ask them to assume you have a certain rating (highest if you think you do) and to give you a good faith estimate based on that. If you are happy with it, then you can pay the fee.
