H and I saw the Monuments Men last night. We both enjoyed it, but weren't blown away by it. I mostly wanted to see it to get out of the house and because the cast looked great. The movie was definitely more light-hearted than I thought it would be, but the comedy in it was just right. John goodman and Bill Murray were great.
I do want to see this. I like the cast, and I like the subject. One of the past directors of our local art museum was a monuments man. It's such a cool position to have existed.

We saw this Saturday. It was good, but also not mind blowing. I liked the story in the sense that it gave me a real appreciation for the MM, as I never knew they existed. But the story had pits in the plot itself...could have been written a little better; come on, Clooney ;-). Some scenes just made no sense. Am I wrong? Great cast. Great art. The speeches Clooney's character gave were spot on.
FWIW I just read about a documentary on this exact topic called The Rape of Europa. www.rapeofeuropa.com/ It's on Netflix, both instant and DVD. It sounds less lighthearted than Monument Men, but interesting nonetheless.
I read the book, which was fine, but I got the feeling the author was REALLY trying to get a movie option because everything was the most. serious. thing. that. ever. happened.
Plus, when I heard it got the release pushed back out of awards season, that didn't seem like a good thing. I'm sure I'll watch it when it makes it to OnDemand or Netflix, though.
