There used to be a poster on BOTB (does anyone even remember that board anymore?) named marrymemylove who confessed while pg that she couldn't wait to lactate so her husband could nurse.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I fucking hate these books. They are awful. Plus, there is way better TwiFanFic you could play find & replace with. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY are these books the face of the lovely lady book porn now? WHY??
I really, really, really need to find the receipt from B&N and hightail my arse over there to get my $16 back.
I feel like the world's biggest idiot. Stores were having such a hard time stocking this crap that when I bought the first one, I bought the other two.
I now have even less desire to finish 2 and start 3.
Part of me wanted to read these books just to see what the hype was all about.
Now? I want to run and hide. WTF?
For anyone that has read them, do you agree that they put out an anti-feminist message? That's one thing I've heard about them that was putting me off.

I'm irrationally rage-y about this.
I'm with you... I just don't like starting something and not finishing it. I also like being able to back up my "side eye" when my friends say how amaze zingy it is. "Really? Amazing? Even the creepy breastmilk thing? Weirdo."

I don't know that my immediate reaction is ant-feminist. What really bothers me is that the books treat fetishism as the result of psychological damage, AND the underlying message seems to be that any man can be "tamed" as the result of the love of a woman. When the reality is, if a man tells you he can't do a normal relationship, LISTEN and fucking run in the other direction.

A big part of the plot centers around Christian's desire to control Ana and her basically learning to submit to a lot of it (and finding out that she enjoys a lot of it). So you could definitely make the case that it is anti-feminist and disturbing that so many women are apparently crazy for these books.
But in a weird way I think they indicate the opposite and show how far women have come. They remind me of rape fantasies in that women might enjoy playing with the societal taboo of a controlling, dominant man in their minds but in no way do they really want a guy like this in their actual lives. In real life, women want to have their own careers, nights out with friends and time to themselves, and a guy to come home to who will be an equal partner in taking care of the house and kids and who won't be constantly telling them what to do.
But that's real life and not necessarily fun or exciting enough to fantasize about.
Not that I'm defending these god awful books btw! I think they are very poorly written.

Yeah, you can enjoy consensual BDSM play - and Christian is really adamant that it all be consensual - without being abused or neglected. You can be naturally dominant or naturally submissive without a traumatic event in your life.
As far as him having a relationship with Ana, I thought it was good that he managed to have a reasonably normal relationship because it sort of showed that even someone who'd had a bad upbringing could heal from that and have a more or less normal relationship.
Yes, Ana should have run the other direction, but if you're a 21 year old virgin who has never had a serious boyfriend, you probably don't have enough life experience to run the other way.
I gave the side-eye to the breastmilk comment and to the pregnant flogging episode as well, although I went with the assumption that he wasn't hitting her that hard, since she made it clear in the first book that she didn't enjoy that.
What I found most obnoxious about the third book was the whole "I'm a 22 year old gazillionaire now because my husband is insanely rich" theme. The lengthy European honeymoon, him buying her $20,000 bracelets, the mansion they bought, etc., was just really annoying and made it hard to relate to Ana.
As far as Ana being anti-feminist, she did insist on continuing to work, and she wanted to keep her maiden name for work purposes, although she did eventually agree to go by Grey because it meant a lot to Christian. So I wouldn't say that she was completely anti-feminist. She challenged Christian a lot about his behavior and crazy stalker tendencies, and there was a lot of talk between them about her not really being all THAT submissive because of how she argued with him and wouldn't give in to everything he wanted.
Still... I wouldn't want my daughter to read those books (or the Twilight books) and think that's what an ideal relationship should be.
She and her husband are back in Australia, and apparently he was having some grand affair with a student of his (professor - so college age? maybe a PhD candidate). Anyway, she found out and made all these weird ass posts about how she hated the chick and that she was going to make him fall back in love with her even though she was super hurt and miserable. She was basically giving him everything he wanted b/c she didn't want a divorce. It was really odd. Even for her.
