I really need to put this on my computer, whatever I had has expired and although they may not be related I've had my Amazon account hacked and my AmEx number stolen in the last week. Any recommendations?
If you haven't already, log into your accounts from a secure but different computer than the one you think is infected. Change your PWs and put additional security logins, etc. Some emails and accounts have an activity log, like FB, and it will tell you when accessed your account, from where, the IP and a time stamp.
I suggest doing this from a non infected computer in case you have a key logger tracking your keystrokes, they can just access the new password from that.
Disconnect your infected machine from the Internet ASAP. Download AVG on the other machine and put the installation file on a flash drive. Then copy it onto your infected computer and install from there. The software may require an Internet connection, so connect at that point if needed. I have seen really bad viruses block attempts at installing malware remover is why I have you doing it the long way 'round.
Thank you!!! I will do all of this. I started to change my passwords, then realized the computer may be infected, so your advice is very helpful!
We use Kaspersky at work and previously used AVG. They switched because of issues with getting updates out but that is more of a 4000 devices on the network issue with at least half being laptops.
I've used AVG for years and it's worked well. The newest version is a bit of a memory hog but I haven't noticed any performance issues on my laptop (6gb RAM).
