Oh that sucks!!!! I had that happen to me when I started looking last year...looked too early and found a great place. Wasn't meant to be.
I'd check out terminating your lease early...even if it's one month early, would that help?! Sounds like a great place that may be tight to have two rents for a month, but worth it long term!
I'm sorry. I just signed my lease at the beginning of the month, and apartment hunting here sucked too. I had the luxury of being able to move out whenever I wanted though (Monday!), so that's a lot different. I hope the building manager can help you. If they can rent it again quickly, they might be willing to work with you.
I hope it works out. If the new place is $600 less a month, then maybe it'd be worth breaking your lease?? ETA: maybe you can help them find a new tenant?

If you can swing the extra cash, it may be worth it to move in 2 months early. It sounds like a great price overall and meets other needs. I would check it out and see if you still love it otherwise.
If it helps, from the day I started seriously looking for apts to the day I signed my lease was less than two weeks. I was stalking craigslist for a couple months before, but that was more to get an idea of the market.
If you end up letting it go, don't be afraid of the shorter time frame.
