I read a thread earlier that Costco has a grain free dog food that runs about $35 for a 30 pound bag. Does anyone know if they have puppy food, or (preferrably) large breed puppy food in that brand?
We don't have a membership, but I think we'd save about $15 every 6 weeks if we switched, so it'd end up paying for itself after about 4 or 5 months. The nearest one is about 30 minutes away, or I'd go check for myself.
Nature's Domain™ Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Dog Food is formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of all stages of life. This means that you can feed this one food to puppies, pregnant or nursing female dogs, adult dogs and senior dogs. One food can be fed to all the dogs in your household.
Notice that there is a feeding guide on the package for puppies and adults. For pregnant or nursing females, we recommend free-choice feeding. Adjust the feeding amounts up or down as needed to keep your pet nice and lean.

I'm not sure if this is a factor for you, but Nature's Domain was part of the recent Diamond pet food recall. My dog was on it and got a contaminated batch and was pretty sick. I won't put him back on their food for that reason. Due to the recall I'm sure they're being vigilant but I don't want to take the chance. Prior to the recall he did very well on the food. If you do end up getting it, trust me you will use the Costco membership for a lot more than food.
We feed our dog (80 lb pittie mix) the Nature's Domain, and she does really well on it. We weren't affected by the recall at all, but I understand if that makes people nervous.
I love Costco, though, so I think a membership is worth it. We joined a few years ago basically for their kirkland brand sports drinks, and saved more than our membership fee over one softball season. (DH was buying 2 gatorades 2x a week at a gas station convenience store.)
One of the best things about Costco is their return policy. If your dog doesn't like the food, you can return whatever is left in the bag, no questions asked.
In regards to the recall, only bags made at the South Carolina plant were recalled (don't know where you live, OP) but all other bags are fine. We live on the west coast, so our bags are packaged at the California plant.
I agree that you will use your membership for a lot more than dog food. We love costco and like someone mentioned, their return policy is awesome!

Thanks so much. I think I'll hold off until our vet visit next week. I want to do what I can to prevent joint issues (rotti-shepherd), but don't want to keep jumping from one food to another.

As a follow-up, the vet is not a fan of dog foods intended for all types of dogs. She has a concern that some dog is not getting what it needs, or is getting too much of something So, we're sticking with TOTW for now.
As a side note, she thinks the pup has allergies. Hopefully just seasonal allergies (too young for food allergies) that will be helped with frequent oatmeal baths.

Thanks, but they say she's too young for allergy meds yet. The oatmeal bath (she's getting better soap than me!) seemed to help yesterday. She started scratching a little today, so I need to get the stuff out of crate and wash that stuff too.
I know this is late, but maybe this will help. For the scratching, I found a charcoal based "shampoo" at the local feed store, and it really helped a lot. I ended up bathing Lauren a few times a week (just her belly where she was itchy), really letting the shampoo soak in, frequently washed her paws, and limited her time on grass, until her skin had calmed down. The vet also had a wash and leave in "lotion" that helped soothe her skin. It really helped a lot. FWIW, she also grew out of the summer skin irritation.
