That early, I give my kid her sippy of water, throw some books on her bed, turn her projector back on and let her be. 60% of the time she puts herself back to sleep. The rest of the time she just plays quietly. Either way the downtime is good for her.

She's in a bed now, but there's not much she's going to get into I won't hear at that point.

I've also been known to throw my kid the Ipad and let her watch a show so I can get some sleep/rest too, so take my opinion FWIW.

I get up that early for work, but don't feel the need to "on" for my kid at all that early.

If a book and a sippy aren't safe, then I'm for sure MOTY, because I put a small DVD player in my kid's room that she's only allowed to watch in the morning on weekends. We walk in, turn on a DVD for her, and then go back to bed for awhile. (My kid is 3 and we have a video monitor, so I'm fine with her being awake and loose in her room without us. We'd hear her if she left her room.)

I'd be throwing a sippy of water, a container of cheerios, and some new and exciting toys in their crib before I went to bed at night, just in case it worked.

We do have video monitors. I have no interest in using them at that hour. I want my eyes closed.

They're already crying at full strength before 6, so if they continue crying after I walk out I figure I haven't lost anything by trying.

H and I are talking over email and he thinks the kids will dump/throw/spill milk and it'll be more work for me in the long run.

My kid is 2.5 and has yet to spill her milk/water in her room. Just make sure you have an actual sippy and not like a Take N Toss they can easily get the lid off of.

The only time leaving a kid with milk in a crib is ever addressed is infancy, like the dangers of tooth rot from letting the kid have milk all night, I guess. Nobody really says, "Fuck yes. Hand that kid some milk. They'll be fine."

Meh. They're not sucking on it all night. Just for 1/2 hour in the morning. It's not any different than walking around with one in my eye.

And people lie. A lot. About their fabulous parenting. And a host of other things.

9 in 10 mothers on here have left their kids alone in the crib to play. I promise.

My brother once let my nephew have his phone to watch one show on YouTube and then fell back asleep. My nephew came back almost four hours later and said he'd watched all the shows, lol. Whoops!

Oh Jeez. That's why I'm lucky my kid has no attention span. It buys me a 1/2 hour. Maybe an hour if she's been up late the night before on a weekend. 20 minutes in, she's usually crawling all over us.

We started letting a DVD take the first 90 min of Saturday parenting by the time DS was two. Shut all the gates and doors and let him sit in the living room.

No, this isn't the kind of parenting people brag about. I was pregnant and tired. DH was just tired. DS had discovered that TV was awesome. We didn't think 6 am on Saturday was so awesome. You do what you can to survive.

I would if I thought I'd work. I gave DD1 bottles of milk in her bed sometimes & sometimes water. She was fine.

ITA. DS got up at 5am this morning, we let him cry a bit and he went back to sleep. Up for the day at 6:15. Not awesome on a Saturday. I think I'll try some milk and toys in the crib next Saturday! @ojo just tell your H that you'll clean any spilled milk, then he's got nothing to complain about. And teenage babysitters is a great idea.

Dd1's crib has been full of toys since around a year when she started flinging them in herself before bed. This morning I heard her wake at 6 when the baby did, turned off the monitor when we got baby to sleep in bed with us and didn't hear her again until 7:30 when she started yelling "mommy come and get me out!!!" from across the house.

My dd is a lot younger 11.5 months, but she always wakes up and stands up, plays with her lovey and babbles for 25-30 mind before we get her. She gets angry if we get here too soon. She needs time to wake up

All I could think is that it sounded brilliant.

I started leaving a sippy of water on the edge of DD's dresser. She grabbed it this morning and drank. I was so excited. Then I saw this.

Perhaps a different kind of sippy is needed

If B wakes up before 6:30 I go in and say "it's not morning time yet," give him the paci and walk back to bed. So far it works. I think he just wants to see my face before he can go back to entertaining himself.

M has a lovey, a blanket with tags and other stuff he can play with on and most recently pillow pet. We have been waking up to him having what sounds like full on conversations with them and the other morning he was giving them the business. It keeps him entertained and us asleep so works for me.

I have no idea how I got to be so anxious about putting stuff in their cribs. I only recently started giving them each a blanket.

My standards are low. Not chokeable or breakable? Fine by me.

I have yet to find a sippy that doesn't have some kind of issue like that. Our Klean Kanteens are the best in terms of leak proof, but one of the kids teethed on the bottom and scraped off the paint.

I let mine have stuffed animals in her crib waaaaaay before a blanket. I'm pretty sure she didn't have one until this winter, when she was two. So you're not too weird

DD sleeps with a lovey, a seahorse (I know about the fire issue but I can't give it up), wub, a stuffed animal and a book. The book makes me laugh - it's so sweet to watch her wake up and page through it. It's the same book too - she is so attached to it.
