I need to buy more bottles because I'm washing all the time. I've tried several and DS takes them all: regular medela, platex drop ins, born free, and avent. I like the Avent because it's less to wash. Born free is also good -- they both seem to give him less gas and have a wider mouth for the formula (we're doing about half BM and half formula, but there's a bottle at every feeding.)
The problem is that I don't want to buy a bunch of small, 4-5 oz bottles and then have to replace them all with the 8-9 oz bottles in a couple of months. Plus, he already takes at least 4 oz at a feeding, sometimes 5, so they seem too small. But the bigger bottles come with the fast flow nipples and the cost of buying slow flow nipples for the bigger bottles is almost as much as just buying the whole bottle. Am I missing a more MMM way to do this?
I feel like we could do any brand because DS doesn't seem to care what the nipple is like as long as there's milk on the other side!
This will be a post and run (to bed!) because I'm trying to sleep when he sleeps. He's not given me much time for GBCN this weekend, but I'll check replies in the morning. TIA!
We used the cheap plastic Evenflo bottles that cost like three dollars for three bottles. That is the only bottles we owned and since I'm cheap I started with the cheapest bottle I could find and that was it and luckily it worked great. There are only three parts to wash as well. The faster size nipples are also really cheap if you need to move up a size but we never had to.
If he's not picky, Tommee Tippee worked great for us and they sell 3 packs of 9 oz bottles with slow flow nipples. They only have a bottle, ring, nipple and cap--no straws or any weird parts to clean.

Thanks! This is good to know. I may run out and buy one of these tomorrow (just to make sure that he doesn't make a liar out of me saying that he's not picky) before buying more.

Dr Browns comes with size 1 nipples in the 8 oz bottles (at least all the bottles I bought did!). DD2 is 3 1/2 months old and has been using the big bottles since 2 months except when we are out and about only because the little bottles fit better in the diaper bag and I just feed her more often.

This. I only ever had small bottles because my best friend gave me all of her son's (he's a couple months older than DD) when he was done with them. Next time I have a baby, I'll just start with the big ones. We never moved up from the size 1 nipples that the Dr. Brown's bottles came with, she used those until she gave up bottles at 11 months.

I have a ton of bottles if you want to try a few. I have the 5oz Tommee Tippee bottles and Avent Naturals (4oz and 8oz) and Avent regular (4oz). If you want to try some out, let me know.
We use Playex drop ins. I went straight to the 8 ounce. They all came with the slow nipple. (I had to go out and buy medium flow as soon as we started b/c I have a fast let down).
I have 9 bottles worth of slow flow nipples...do you want them (or is this gross?). They were never used. Sitting in a plastic zip lock bag in my closet for about since September. I am going to toss them in the garbage (b/c I didn't think I could donate and I don't know anyone who wants just nipples). If this is weird then disregard. If you want them I will ship them to you.

I also just realized that if you have to buy bigger bottles (8 oz) then you will get the slow flow nipples with the Playtex. So my offer may not be helpful.
And I wish I had known other brands had fast flow nipples on the larger bottle! But oh well, DS would only take drop in despite trying 4 different bottles.
DS never took more than 5 or 6 ounces, and we used slow flow until he was like 10 months. We used Playtex drop-ins and then Playtex Ventaire after he was FF exclusively. We did have the larger ounces, but we really didn't need them. Little stinker!
I think it is worth buying one or two to see what is preferable!

This is such a sweet offer, thank you. But I'm kind of itching to have this taken care of so I kind of don't want to wait for them to arrive. I think I'll go out today and buy a Tommee Tipppee. If that works, I'll get some more.

Thanks for the offer. I don't think it's gross - lol! But since they come on the big bottles, then I don't really need them.
All of my kids were supplemented with formula of some amount and I bought a mix of small and large bottles for the first 2, DD2 got small bottles and never needed more than 4-5oz. I agree with buying the 9oz and slow flow nipples, I never used any faster flow nipples but if your DD will down the road then it is still MM because I found that I needed to replace the nipples occasionally. Also with Born Free bottles the rubber piece that fits on the vent insert (whatever it is called) corroded on our first batch of bottles and we needed to buy new ones so they may not be a very MM choice.
