We found out today that O had rsv. He's nine months. His O2 saturation was good at the office. They gave us things to look for to bring him to the hospital or suction clinic. If you brought your baby back in after the doctor, what made you do so? I feel like I'm missing the instinct that should tell me this... Sent from my SPH-L710 using proboards
I felt the same way Sunday. DD3 (7.5 months) had been coughing and crying all night. I could hear her breathing and wasn't sure when to bring her in. I tried giggling videos of retractions but couldn't find anything. The base of her neck and middle of her ribs were sinking in when she took a breathe. I took her to the er Sunday morning and she was also diagnosed with RSV. She got a breathing treatment but was still grunting. They kept her overnight and we just got home. She goes to the pedi tomorrow. They said to bring her back if the retractions come back, she looks blue, or she is struggling to breathe and her nostrils are flaring. It is scary!
They did listen to his lungs and said he's wheezing before and after suction. We also have a suction clinic we can go to until eleven tonight. They can also tell us if we need to go to the er. He's been really sleepy. Poor kid it's also teething:( I don't know if he's using his belly to breathe. I really need my motherly instinct to kick in about now!!

retractions and lethargic. He was 3.5 months at the time and hospitalized for 5 days (though it had turned in to bronchiolitis). I hope your little one is better soon! RSV is scary.

For retractions and 'breathing from the belly' watch between his breast bones to see if it sucks in. I don't know how else to describe it - watching some youtube videos of retractions in babies of the same age can be helpful.

He never had retractions or a fever, but he was beginning to get dehydrated around day five, so we brought him in on day six even though he was eating better by then.
Thanks, everyone. He seems a little better now, playing instead of sleeping, and completely off his sleep schedule! H is home with him tomorrow and he'll bring him in to the doc or clinic in the morning. He seems okay to make it through tonight.
