My 9 year old dachshund who has congestive heart failure is scheduled for a dental cleaning on Monday after having some issues this week with an infected tooth. I'm terrified for him to be put under because of the heart condition. Anyone have experience with this? Ease my mind, please.
Make sure the vet knows about his condition (in case this is a new vet), and talk with the vet about the risks of this procedure. He or she might be able to ease your mind.
If your dog has an infected tooth and heart failure, just know that you are doing the right thing by getting the teeth cleaned, even if putting the dog under comes with risks.

Thank you for responding. Just wanted to update that I ended up having to take him back to the vet on Wednesday morning because he had an extremely bad abscessed tooth. His eye swelled huge, was blood red, and he had a line of pus under it (even with 4 days of being on antibiotics beforehand). The vet wasted no time and extracted 2 teeth plus gave him a good cleaning. He's home and seems to be doing much better. Swelling is gone and his eye is barely red now. He's eating fine and even grabbed a toy to play yesterday. He has several days left on clindamycin but my little guy is feeling better

What a scary situation! Thank goodness he's feeling better! Poor little guy had it rough, but he's lucky that his momma takes good care of him.
