Morning everyone! What's on the agenda today? For me it's my 2nd day back at the office after maternity leave and I have decided I need to win the lottery. Like yesterday. I used to enjoy work, but I'm over that. I now enjoy sleep, and they don't allow sleeping in the office, so well, there ya have it.
QOTD: How often are you in contact with your family (phone/Skype/email/in person) and is/was that much different when you lived closer together?

Morning!
Happy Tuesday :-) Middle of the week for us ME'ers! Whoop!
I'm at work all day, then I have yoga after work, and then meeting a friend for dinner/coffee! Busy day :-)
QOTD: Hmmmm, for my mom, it is very different. We lived in the same city, so I saw her at least every weekend, if not during the week. Now we do our best to email/Skype once or twice a week. She is a nurse and has a crazy schedule, so it varies. For my friends and the rest of my family, we try to keep in touch via email (some times every day), which is about the same as when I was in the US.

Good Morning!
Tuesday was grocery shopping day, and a reminder that I am late with a card for my Grandmother's birthday. Arghhh! She's one of those crazy people with whom you can actually rank her favorites and I know this will send me straight to the bottom of the list. And yes, she is mean enough to check the postmark date to see if it was my fault or the post office's the card was late. Ohh well, nothing I can do about it now, so I spent the day watching Olympics coverage. Dinner was my own creation: spanakopita pinwheels and a green salad with a lemon dressing. It came out very well; well enough to do again.
QOTD: I lived with my parents before I moved to Australia, so I saw them and talked to them every day. We were a very close family so my move has really been hard on us all. We video Skype at least once a month, but call each other every other day or so and usually text or instant message though games daily.

Sorry Cheesecake! Going back to work after having a LO is hard. Sorry you're not enjoying it, but I hope that will change.
I'm just hanging out until I can register for mynext translation class. Hope it works out soon.
I see my parents once or twice a year, and we talk on the phone a couple of times a week. Skype is harder to do since our internet connection is wireless.
I hear you on the lottery winning! We can only hope.
At work all day, going to the gym at lunchtime, and hoping for some downtime with H tonight as we've been running about a lot lately and haven't been able to just sit down and relax until pretty late every night.
QOTD: I live 10 minutes drive away from my mother. We speak 2-3 times a week on the phone (quick calls) and see each other every 10-15 days for dinner or lunch. H speaks to his 2-3 times a week too but they're long calls. She comes over twice a year for about ten days.

Hallmark.com lets you personalize and send greeting cards via post in the US. I use it all the time because mail here is so slow. It's really nice. You can add pictures, change text, and send a message on the inside. Plus, it'll get there in a couple days!
I'm right there with you Cheesecake, work is no fun anymore when it means leaving DS all day.
At least I get to leave early today. We have our 6-month check up for DS this afternoon.
QOTD: I call my mom via skype (free calls to US subscription) everyday. We've always been close. I talk to my siblings once a week on the phone (skype). We all video chat a bit more now with the LO. We also email a lot, and have our own private FB group, which is nice for posting pics and videos.
The biggest difference with the move is just the time change. Between work and going to sleep, there's always just a small window in the evenings when we can talk, so it's not always easy. But I suppose that would be similar even in the US.
I was going to go shopping at IKEA today until I looked in my wallet and realized I had the equivalent of about a dollar in Chinese yuan. Newp.
I'm meeting up with a friend tomorrow to go to the fake market. I'm hoping I can find a cute phone case for my "new to me" iPhone 4S. DH got an iPhone5 from work so I got his old phone
QOTD: I usually message with my Mom and Dad every other day via iMessage (Apple's messaging system). We FaceTime maybe once a week? Lately though, I've been messaging with my Dad every day pretty much for about an hour or so. He's stuck at home almost all day because of a pinched nerve in his spine and gets really bored when my mom goes out. Chatting takes his mind off the pain and keeps him from getting super bored.
I email every few weeks or every month with the rest of the my siblings and keep in touch via FB.
I'd say that is about the same as when I lived in CA. I lived with my parents and sister for a few months before I moved to Shanghai, but that was out of the ordinary.
A boring day because I don't feel like writing (not that it otherwise would be so exciting). I have physical therapy in about an hour and am tutoring later this afternoon.
QOTD: I live in my home country now and see my mom about every 6-8 weeks. I see my dad about once every 2-3 months. I talk to my mom on the phone about once a week and chat with her online almost every day (not my choice). I hardly ever talk to my dad on the phone but we send emails and chat some times.
When I lived abroad I would see both my parents about 1-2 times a year and the calling and online communications were basically the same.

Hello! LO is napping so I am watching the Gilmore Girls. Nothing interesting here. Just ran some errands and trying to keep LO from destroying the house.
Hi there! It's a workday here and I have things to do.
QOTD: I have some family who live in a different part of the US and I'd love to Skype with them more but they don't really use that kind of technology. A few of them post on Facebook. Mostly they still communicate by letter and phone.
I do want to mention that I have a lot of friends in various places around the world. That wasn't the subject of the question but I do talk with them regularly on Facebook chat and Skype. It's a good way to stay connected. Edited to add: It's definitely different than being in person but it is what it is. I'm glad to be able to stay in touch with people these days. Wherever we go, we can still be friends.

Hey ladies! Not much here...just hanging out at work, walking on the treadmill (we have treadmill dock stations for our computers, so you can walk and work at the same time...they're awesome!). Counting down the days until the weekend, like usual.
QOTD: I talked to my parents more when we lived overseas, via Skype. Not a lot more, maybe 1-2 times a week more (we talk 1-2 times a week now).

I won a contest to spend a day with a Brewster (female brewer) at a brew pub and make a beer that will be served at a beer festival in a month. It was cool - we had a hand in choosing the hops (flavour) and then did most of the work. It was cool and I could see the appeal of the job (plus they gave us food - fabulous - and all the beer we wanted to drink - not that much).
QOTD: How often are you in contact with your family (phone/Skype/email/in person) and is/was that much different when you lived closer together? We talk every two weeks or so. About the same as when I was in the States. I'm close to my parents but I wouldn't have anything to say to them every day. Hell, I don't have enough to talk to my DH about every day sometimes.
