I always take a little less than I would at home so there is " enough" to go around. I am always afraid there won't be enough food for everyone & I will be the pig on there 4th slice in the corner.

I take a modest first serving, make sure there is enough for everyone, and then take seconds. My sister-in-law loves when I come to visit because I am not shy about taking seconds or leftovers - she can cook!

Normally this is not an issue for me, but sometimes I find myself curbing how much I eat at my MIL's house. She eats like a bird and has occasionally made oblique comments that make me think she might find huge appetite in women offputting. So I cut back to H's level--I normally eat more than he does.
For my parties, I always ALWAYS over estimate the food and I don't ever plan on changing that. I also buy those cheapy tupperware containers for every party and offer friends to take home some of the left overs. (They never decline.) This pisses DH off but that's why my RSVP rates are so high. PEOPLE EAT at my parties!

The downside to having non-Asian inlaws. LOL.
You get it.
And I wrote my post below before even reading your post. Hahahahahaha.

My ILs are like that. They go out for dinner every single day and SHARE a meal. The first time I was over for cake, I asked for a small piece (because in my family if you don't ask for a small piece you get 1/6 of the cake) and got the thinnest sliver I had ever seen. WTF? lol
Oh and the first time I was over there for a BBQ, they asked if I wanted a hot dog or burger. I said one of each. Then realized thatit was NOT normal in their family. Damn skinny wasps.

Why does this piss him off?
I'll tell you what would piss me off.
NOT ENOUGH FOOD.
Because the left overs go home with other people! Which reminds me. I still have TONS of left overs in our fridge from the Superbowl party even AFTER I gave away shit. I need to point that out to DH's stingy ass.
I'm about to make a gross generalization that may offend many of you.
Who is hosting these parties that don't provide enough food?
Because.
Well.
That doesn't happen when Asian people host.
LEFTOVERS FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.
I once went to a baby shower where they took away the food before people could have a round 2 at the buffet spread. And then the leftovers were packed away and placed out of sight.
If it's someone I know well, then all bets are off. But if it's someone new or someone I don't know as well, I am more reserved. This is only because I tend to be weird about food from people I don't know well.

I do this too, and MIL would chuckle, which gives me a complex. It was the worst when I was in my first trimester extreme hunger phase and she was making fun of my appetite--RAGE.
