I have always paid the bills in our family, and I can't remember the last time I messed up.
In the past week, I forgot to pay not one but TWO of our credit cards. I had the payments listed in our excel spreadsheet tracker and marked them as paid, but for whatever reason did not actually pay them online. WTF is wrong with me.
I caught the Chase one the day after the payment was due, paid it online, called, and they waived the late fee for me.
I just caught my Amex, called, and the guy was like oh yeah, it shouldn't be a problem because you have been a cardmember for like, 20 years. But I only paid the previous month's balance due (not including the late fee) and it wouldn't go through. Well I deserve the $25 fee for being a fucking moron today. GAH.

urgh that sucks. I have only done it once on a credit card I only used that month to keep it active. So annoying.
I've considered making the bill payments automatic because of this, I don't trust my memory anymore but normally check them every payday and pay as much as I can.
That sucks!! I feel like things like that always happen in groups. It's like your brain just messing with you or something!
So annoying, because you have a good process in place with your tracker. What a bummer.
FWIW, I did something similar once with our mortgage (sent $25 credit card payment to mortgage provider, and mortgage payment to credit card). They were the same bank and they worked through it a month later when i FREAKED OUT because the statement showed us as behind on the mortgage. H was very fiesty at me for that mixup!
Ugh! That sucks. I think we have all done that at one time or another.
We have been getting collections calls. Checked the credit reports before calling them back (to say wrong number, stop calling). And then I saw on the credit report that I have been underpaying the mortgage by $1 for the better part of a year. WTF?!
I'm assuming its not a huge deal. And I know, ML, "OMG a whole dollar!" But, still kind of freaked me out.
Collections calls were some random guy I've never heard of.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
Once, I underpaid my water bill for the better part of a year. It's a set rate, quarterly bill and I have it on auto pay. I didn't realize that the rate went up until I got a letter in the mail threatening to shut off my water for a total balance of $45 or so. Luckily, they didn't charge me any late fees though!
