Y'all might remember about six weeks ago I posted that my mom wanted to train for a half marathon but she has type 2 diabetes and the will power of about a piece of tinfoil. So I had my doubts about her ability to stick to something mentally and physically.
Well, six weeks into her training plan with me as her "coach" and we haven't had a fight! She's grumbled at me and sent me some midnight texts (she's in Alaska, so time difference) saying that I'm a drill sergeant and not a daughter but that's it
She's had an appointment with her diabetes doctor who is 100% supportive of her doing this and for the first time I think ever, she actually lost weight at her check in. The last time she worked out for six consecutive weeks was when she was working with a personal trainer before Josh and I got married in 2006. Perhaps best of all, when she misses a workout, the next day, she tells me how crappy she feels and how much she's looking forward to her next workout. For the first time ever, working out is becoming something fun and good for her, not torture and misery.
I have her doing some 5Ks as prep for the half in June and today was her first "real" 5K. (She's done other 5Ks and walks but never with any training.) I told her I just wanted her to push and come in at under an hour.
