The second fatal jet ski accident I've heard about this week. An astronaut was killed, I think in Florida. His son struck him from behind. So, so, so sad.
I am pretty sure the person who hit them was part of their group, as in someone that knew them. They hit a 15 year old girl too. A few weeks ago at the same lake 2 brothers were killed when their boat was hit by a drunk person driving another boat. This is a huge lake that has a lot of fatalities and it is awful.

I grew up on the water in MD, and we had to have a boater safety class and carry our license when I took the jet skis or boat out. I'm curious if GA will change boater safety laws.

Did this happen at Lake Lanier? I feel like things like this happen there all the time.

It was at Lake Lanier. Things happen there all the time, I think someone has died there every July 4 for something like 8 or 9 years. But it is every week someone drowns or is hit or something.
That's awful. But good on usher to fly the mom out immediately. Just heartbreaking. We have a powerboat and we are always out tubing, wake boarding, etc,. I'm always so scared of accidents.
That's so heartbreaking. He was floating in a tube and a jet ski hit him? Was the driver drunk? How do you not see a kid in a tube?
My dad lives on a lake, and some jet skiiers can be fucking morons. Like, they're afraid of falling off in deep water (why?) so they stay close to shore, where kids are swimming, instead of going straight out into the middle of the bay. When we were younger, my dad had some angry confrontations with people down the shore from us.
So whenever I hear about a jet ski accident, sadly, it's not surprising. Those things are powerful and can be more dangerous than people realize.
People can be so so stupid on JetSkis. It is like they think "Oh, I am in the water, so it is safe!"
We used to spend a ton of time at lakes when I was growing up, and there was always some accident, and it almost always involved drunk people, drunk people on jet skis, or jet skis.
***Random anecdote*** When I was like 13, we were at Lake Folsom in NoCal. There had been a drowning a couple days prior (drunk dude) but they had yet to find the body. My parents kept teasing me that as I was water skiing I would feel a themp thump, then look back and realize that I had skiied over a dead body. My family may have a sick sense of humor.

And on top of the accidents every year at Lake Lanier, at least one additional body is found from a previous accident or missing person case. There is so much debris at the bottom of the lake, bodies can take years to surface. Or so I've heard... :-|
