The boys have been getting constipated on and off. We do leg pumps and the last resort is the thermometer trick.
But do you guys have any OTHER tricks we could use before the thermometer trick? My mom said their butts can get reliant on that stimulation -- hence why it's our last resort. I know they're too young for things like juice.
Is there anything I can do so the breast milk they get has more fiber or something in it to help them along?
How old? How long between bowel movements? Call your pedi and ask. My pedi had me add probiotics to DS's formula. Then when he was old enough (8 mos?) I started giving him yogurt every day which I still do today at 23 months. It's the only thing that keeps him regular. He's always been a terrible pooper.
Oooh okay, I have heard of the probiotics this young (they're 3 months). It's up to 3 days, usually -- we do the thermometer trick at the end of Day 2 but it doesn't always work I will give them a call this week (or today if they don't poop today). Yay poop!!
Our pediatrician said not to worry unless it's been 5 days, which seemed like a long time to me. Mine are FF, I think that makes a difference. When they were getting BM they were more regular. FWIW, now that we've started solids they seem more regular, and we've given them prunes to try to help things along on certain days. That doesn't help you now, but at least you know in a couple of months you'll have a lot more options.

They're breastfed, right? And nothing other than breastmilk? 3 days isn't "omg they haven't pooped yet?!" worthy. Breastfed babies can go quite a while without a BM - much different from formula. It's easier for their bodies to digest and break down, leaving little waste. DS went through a stretch of 10 days at one point I think? I can't remember how long exactly but I do know we were worried. The pedi told us it wasn't a big deal, and the LC confirmed that. It seems unnatural and uncomfortable to us but try not to worry too much too early on. At least wait until day 5 before you try alternative measures. Oh, and DS was right around the same age as your boys when he had his long stretch of no pooping.
I worried about this with pudding as he only shits every 5-7 days. However, my pedi and the google all say that it's incredibly rare for a breastfed baby to be constipated and that infrequent shit is not constipation anyway.
Constipation is difficulty going and/too thick poop. So unless when they shit something that's thicker in consistancy than cold peanut butter, your boys are probably just infrequent poopers like mine.
But I'm an infrequent shitter so it's no surprise my kid is too.
