I have two cats. We give each of them 1/4 of a 5.5 oz can twice a day, and they get 1/8 cup of kibble each. One of them always acts like he's starving, but the number of calories we give him are appropriate. He just really likes food.
Have you figured out how many calories he's getting?
Is there dry food always available? I feed my younger cats just a large forkful of wet food twice a day. The elderly cat gets a lot more, but she needs the calories.

Different cats require different caloric intakes. If your cat is maintaining a healthy weight, it is getting enough food. My cat acts like he is starving 15 minutes after he finishes his food. It's all an act.
We have three cats. They each get an ounce of wet food twice a day, plus dry food too. FWIW, two of our cats are "perfect" weight (vets words) and one cat is a fatty. We are working on getting her weight down.
He was on all dry and overweight. He lost weight, and then we found out he has bladder stones, so we switched to wet. I think he's a little too skinny. Maybe we'll give him some dry overnight to supplement. We can't leave it out all day- he'll scarf it all down immediately, and then puke it up.

We fed one 5.5oz can twice a day that three cats eat. There is also dry food available all the time (the forth cat only eats dry). Two of the first three snack on a few pieces of dry food during the day, the third doesn't eat dry at all.
What food are you feeding--the higher quality of food, the less they should need.
Oh, and our tiniest cat is always trying to convince us we haven't feed her yet and she is about to collapse. She's not.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Roxy gets half a can of Fancy Feast in the morning and half a can at night. She also has some dry food available during the day (she eats maybe 1/2 cup a day). I can't tell if she's gaining weight or just still growing -- she's about 18 months old, so it could go either way.
Ok, good, it sounds like Samson is just a hog. Case in point- I had some pound cake wrapped in plastic wrap on the counter. He snuck up there after we went to bed, pushed it off, dragged it to the family room, and nibbled on the corners.
Dear God, I have the same problem. Sadie is on a raw food diet. The brand name is Natural Variety. She weighs 6.4 lbs, she is a small cat. But not bony, seems to be just right. She gets 5/8 of a cup (and yes I measure it) of the raw "bites" each day, we split it in half, for morning and night. This has 195 calories in it. It's also what the package says she should be eating, for her weight. I also read that cats should get about 30 calories per lb, so for her she needs 192 calories. I think she has a food obsession, I really do, because she refuses to leave the kitchen, she cries every time we open the fridge, or do ANYTHING in the kitchen. I feel bad because I feel like she's saying "I'm hungry!" but I know I'm feeding her appropriately. Funny thing is, she will whine and carry on when I come downstairs in the morning (DH has already left for work by then, and he feeds her first thing), I swear she thinks I don’t know he fed her, and she can get food from me. She just sits there all innocent, asking for food, like Oliver damn Twist
each cat gets a can of Fancy feast at night, and there is unlimited dry food available.
My dummy's favorite thing to do is to eat her can of wet food, then immediately gorge on the dry until she pukes. The she's all, "I MADE MORE FOOD" and tries to eat it and gets really gretsy when you clean it up first.
Anyone want my cat? She also poops outside of the litter box, on the same tile every day. At least she's consistent.
