Just out of curiosity, what items do you bring to the beach/pool?
We'’re heading to the Caribbean in a few months- some days we’'ll be at sea (hence, just going to the pool), while other days we'’ll be at port and will need to bring both our beach stuff (but not too much stuff since we'’ll need to carry it with us all day on our sightseeing excursion).
For me, here is my list: - 2 towels (most likely will carry this in our arms/not put in bag) - SPF- body, face - iPads (2) - iPhones (2), headphones - Water bottle, water bottle spray - Plastic grocery bags (to stuff sandy/wet clothes and shoes) - Hats - Wallet/IDs/credit cards/cash - Point & shoot camera
Most of that stuff, minus Iphones and Ipads, because I have no desire to use electronics on the beach (and I've had people shuffle through my personal belongings while I'm in the water.) I also don't carry my wallet, but stick a few necessities in the pocket of my beach bag (license, cash, maybe a card if I absolutely need it for something.)
Ditto the ziplock bags. I usually put money, magazines, books and/or kindle in ziplock when I'm not using them to avoid getting sandy or wet. Also bring aloe to treat any sunburn
I don't generally bring electronics that I'm not willing to part with. I bring my phone b/c it's an old POS, and if someone steals it, oh well. I bring my kindle, too.
I also have a couple waterproof cases for things like keys, credit cards, and cash. I don't use them all the time, but I really should.
If I'm at the beach all day instead of just a couple hours, I'll bring a light tunic that has long sleeves for when I'm tired of the sun. Plus it's a lot more comfortable to throw over a wet suit than a tshirt.
Other than that, just your basics: sunscreen, water, etc.

If you do get the blanket, then you can bring just a towel to share to dry off instead of each having your own to lie on the sand.
Oh, also, you might want to consider bringing your snorkel equipment depending on where you're going. Sometimes just having a mask is nice if there's anything to look at.
towel water body sunblock facial sunblock (because I have acne-prone skin) sunglasses hat water wallet (for keys, cash, cards, etc) paperback book
I never leave anything of value on the beach or by the pool when I swim, so that's one of the few times I buy paperbacks instead of reading on the iPad. Also, I always bring something I can swim with instead of leaving money/keys behind.

If you're on a cruise, you won't need to bring your own towels. They provide bath towels in the room that are replenished daily, and they'll also provide you with 2 beach towels that you can use at the pool and at the beach when you're in port. When you're at the beach in port all you'll see are the cruiseline towels at the beach. You can turn the towels in for fresh ones at the pool area on board as much as you need to.
