If I could ask, what formula are you using to figure out how many calories to eat - for those calorie counting? I haven't found a sweet spot and would appreciate pointers.
If it helps, I had a body band that I wore 24/7 for a few weeks. On days I worked out, I burned 2400-2600 calories in a day, including the cal burn from my run. On rest days I burn 1500-1750 cals/day. How many cals should I deduct from those to lose? 250?
This week has probably been my happiest week in a really long time. For once, I feel good. I am proud of myself for going to the gym and for loving it.
Today I tried the stationary bike for the first time and I did 10 minutes and 2.68 miles. It doesn't seem like a lot but I haven't been on any kind of bike in years. Instant love, I am absolutely in love with it and I think I found my exercise.
I'm also kicking butt at the weight machines.
So very happy for you, Trickybob! Way to go! 2.68 miles is an accomplishment. Keep it up!
I've been getting discouraged because the numbers on the scale really aren't moving but, I feel good and my clothes are definitely looser. I should have measured. A pair of jeans I couldn't button a couple weeks ago are really sagging in the but this week! I've been doing a lot of hiit training, I get a daily exercise workout everyday in my email and have found a few that I really like so i will add thm in as well. I am burning so much more in 20 minutes an I did an hour on the treadmill. I'm really sore too! I'm going to stay off the scale until Monday weigh ins,
How do you get the daily exercise workout in your email? I would love to get something like that.
I am more in maintenance phase now but found success stories and pictures very motivating when I was actively losing, so here are mine now. My biggest advice is to never give up.
(I lost 90 lbs, it took well over a year, but I figure slow and steady wins the race).
YOU ARE MY FUCKING HERO.
Ha! Thanks...just glad to hopefully give some inspiration to others who are trying to make healthy changes. I really loved (still do) looking at before/after pictures and hearing stories. It is amazing what the body is capable of once you put your mind to it AND find the right balance that works for you. It just sucks that it can be such a long and hard journey.
I am very open and honest about my whole story...the good bad and ugly....so if anyone ever feels like asking questions, or even just wants to vent about their own experience, etc....feel free to shoot me a PM.

That is so awesome. I want to print you your pictures for inspiration! You should do a blog! I have a ton of questions, I'll PM you.
I am not losing, not gaining. I consider this a small victory. I have been sick, travelling with the family, etc. I haven't worked out in a few weeks and I feel it. I need to get back to running asap. I am going tomorrow night and sickly enough I am excited.
I am eating mostly healthy. but I am not dropping weight. its because I am not exercising. I love the pics, I love hearing the good news its so inspiring

I signed up after watching a Craig Ballentyne video. This is the link I got for todays workout. There is an email sign up on the side.

My period is over and I lost 3.5 "pounds!"
Seriously though, my body responds well to circuit training....cardio and weights combined. I have a book titled "Making the Cut" by Jillian Michaels and I do a routine from that 2 days a week and sprint/speedwalk intervals 2 more days per week. Bac in my routine and loving it!

I do have a blog, in fact I started it at the very beginning :-) I see your PM, I will give you the link.
why are so many of you who do weight/strength training depending on the scale numbers? you do realize that your weight is not going to be a clear indicator of progress, right?
/pet peeve
I know for me it is. I am obese and need to lose weight. So any loss of lbs is a good and needed thing. And my weight/strength training/cardio/etc. is a bit dependent on the scale, since the more I work out/watch what I eat, the less I am weighing which makes it easier to move and train.
That being said, I am liking the tightening of various areas that have less to do with weight loss and more to do with getting fit(ter).
I started ice skating lessons.....so fun! I also bought a juicer a couple of weeks ago and now I juice everything. I sneak spinach in dd's apple juice in the mornings. I've convinced her that apples are actually green in a liquid state. I feel really good too.
Thanks! I am going to check this out. I need all the reminders I can get to work out.
I like that its different every day and they are short enough I can do a few, or like today was abs which was nice because my shoulders hurt so bad from 2 days ago!
winelady I will be glad if I can get through one since I am totally flabby and out of shape right now. But I figure I can go slow and getting through it is a victory in itself, right? (and I like that there is a video because I don't know what the heck some of these exercises are.

I started out obese, so the scale numbers were really important. I had a lot to lose! Now that I am a healthier weight, however, I do try to focus on overall health and fitness and not only the scale. In fact I would much rather weigh 15 lbs more but be able to kick butt in a Marathon, than be 15 lbs less but be weak and tired. :-)

Well, I'm not trying to actively lose weight while pregnant, but since I'm obese I'm trying to keep a close eye on weight gain. I'm currently 17 weeks along. Last time at this point I had gained 17 pounds and had gotten the weight lecture from my OB. As of my appointment last week, I've gained 6 pounds and was lecture-free! I'm definitely indulging in more snacks than I do while not pregnant, so I'm not going hungry or anything, but I've actually been craving a lot of protein, fruits, and vegetables this time around which I'm sure has helped.
I quit sugar. I am almost a week into it and doing well. I have been tracking my food which really helps as well and am now 15 lbs away from my pre pregnancy weight at just under 5 months postpartum. The last 15 lbs is where I always struggle. I am going to start C25k next week,so hopefully that will start toning some things up with some abdominal work thrown in!
This thread is motivating. I started off in the weight loss challenge, but forgot to weigh in a couple weeks and then just gave up. I had an OB/gyne appointment today and he told me he'd like me to lose a little weight before ttc. I felt all bad about it at first, but then I realized it's nothing to feel bad about. It's true, and I can sulk or I can get off my butt and do something. I just did a bunch of blogilates and tiffany rothe youtube workouts.

This process has been in fits and starts for me, so I haven't really had any huge physical improvements that I've noticed. It's more of an attitude shift.
I feel better about myself, because I know that each day, I'm trying to do more good things for myself than bad. I'm slowly re-engaging with running, after burning myself out on it last year. I'm trying to slowly wean down my sugar intake every day. I'm looking to try new forms of exercise - I'm looking at ice skating, rock climbing, swimming and kickboxing as possibilities.
It's still early days for me on this newest surge towards being healthy. And I know I'll have shit days. But I know I can do it because I've done it in the past. And this time, I have a really awesome group of ladies that are so supportive
I've missed the last couple weigh-ins but I am down to 116 pounds. I started at 140 in Sept and 129 on the day we started your spreadsheet. We leave for Florida next week. DH gets his annual profit sharing check in 2 days and I am taking it and going shopping. I got rid of all my skinny clothes because I never thought I would be this size again so I need some new clothes for vacation.
Goal is to weigh 106 on May 22. That will be the same weight on my 10th anniversary as I weighed on my wedding day.
ETA: what's worked for me, eating more, believe it or not. I used to go an entire day without eating, then I would eat all kinds of garbage in the evening because I was starving and I "deserved" it after a hard day. now I make sure I eat breakfast every day. I eat lunch and a small healthy snack in the afternoon and a reasonable dinner. I am satisfied all the time and never feel the need to scarf down 200 calories in the evening. In the beginning, I did a lot of calorie tracking and activity tracking. Now that I have the hang of reasonable portions, I no longer have to keep track. I also still allow junkie snacks here and there but I put the chips in a small bowl rather than eating straight from the bag.
i have also been walking/running on a tread mill about 3-4 times a week. Anywhere from 3-8 miles. I also do weights 2x a week. Plus lots of winter activity. I got a new ski coat and pants for Xmas so it has been a pleasure to play outside with the kids all winter. I've probably put on 5 miles just climbing up the sledding hill.
I've been focusing on small battles this week, because I am the ULTIMATE justification queen.
SO, here's what I did. Today, I went to Dollar Tree to get birthday pencils for my students. I did NOT get candy. I smugly walked down the candy aisle to be all, "bitches, you have no power over me!!"
I am extremely pleased with myself. Give me my damn gold star for not being an out of control piggy. lol

My 60 minute workout is starting to feel easy, i.e., I'm not ready to faint when I'm done!
I'm going to increase the amount of weight I use on the machines by 5lbs each.
Also, my BFF has started being my workout buddy (something I always said I didn't like) but she said I motivate her to workout.
Oh, yeah, and yesterday someone called me a skinny-minnie. I just smiled and said, "Thank you so much!" Normally, I say "Oh, I'm not skinny...." but I'm leaving that part off. Not because I think I'm skinny (I'm not) but because I need to learn to just accept compliments when someone is nice enough to give me on.

We don't yet have a determined end date and I still have you down in my list. You are more than welcome to continue on and update me whenever.
I go to the gym 6 days a week, and eat 1200 calories. I've only lost 13 lbs this year. FML
Why so low on the calories?
It took me 16 years to learn that I need to eat, especially when working out, in order to lose weight. 1200 calories only works so long until it isn't sustainable anymore. Can you try bumping it up to 1400 and see if that makes a difference?
::hugs:: I've been there, many, many times and it sucks. But you WILL get over this hump and rock on. I promise.

Because I am so damn short, I am JUST 5 foot 3, so a doctor once told me I could go as low as 1000. I will say that when I lost weight before pregnant, I hit a plateau, and I had to bump it up to 1400 calories to get going again. I mean, I consistently lose about 1 lb a week, which is good, but it's hard to see only 1 lb when I work my butt of for it. Such is life!
