Specifically from Maximized Living? It was recommended to me and I have always been generally leery of these things, but I also like the idea of doing some type of detox and my friend swears by this one. These are just pills, not a crazy diet that only involves drinking prune juice or something. I work out and try to eat well, but can't say I am overly knowledgeable about these types of things. Any of you ladies have some experience you can share?
Your liver's job is to detox your body. Pills aren't going to help. If you want to be healthier, go to the library and check out a book on nutrition written by someone who is a registered dietician (RD). Then work on a sustainable exercise plan. Incorporate what you learn in your nutrition research. Take small, sustainable steps that will stick with you for a healthier lifestyle long term.
No cleanses. No "detox systems." No fads or gimmicks. No diet pills.
Whenever a question like this comes up, it makes me think about how my friends used to handle such discussions/arguments back in school. We'd hide behind the bar.
And thusly, I am hiding behind the bar. Anyone need a cocktail?
More seriously - No one around here will support a 'detox'. Eat clean, drink water, exercise, thrive.
That ML thread was fantastic. I particularly liked that the 'doc' sold shakes for half price in his office, and then someone else thinking that the tread would be full of helpful advice on detoxes!
Think we'll ever learn as a society that there is no shortcut?
No. If I need to "detox" - for lack of a better term - I focus on drinking a lot of water and eating as clean as possible. I guarantee that you will feel healthier going this route as opposed to taking a pill.
Oddly, two women I work out with on Sundays keep talking about isagenix - taking the shakes, doing the detox - whatever. But really, they are fit, early 40s, and SMART. I am not understanding why they think this is a good idea??!

My husband is king of the "fad diets" and tried Isagenix a few years ago against my pleading. He did lose weight, but then instantly put it back on. He is coming around to clean eating and using your brain instead of gimmicks.

I feel like even after the entire thread, the OP over there didn't really get how her post was different from the elimination diet/clean eating posts. Oh well. I also had a little laugh at "you can get enough protein from vegetables." "Enough" is going to vary based on each person's goals and activity. I am definitely trying to eat more than 46g of protein/day which is the number that was given!

I LOL'd at that too. I'd have to eat a truckload of peppers!

I am totally with you. I think she would've been aghast if I told her I try to get 1g of protein per lb of body weight...every day.

Yes! We are going to an Oscar party on Sunday and one of my friends insists on bringing dessert because she wants one more sweet before her "cleanse" on Monday. We are talking about one of smartest people I know... I just don't get it. But I'm not about to open my trap about it!
I have heard smart people verbalize that they are using a cleanse/detox to "jump start" their weight loss/healthy eating/whatever. I usually want to scream at them, that you don't need a "jump start," because something radical enough to require a jump start is inevitably too radical to sustain - WHICH WILL NOT WORK in the long run!
