Hey Ladies,
So I just bought and read New Rules of Lifting For Women and I can't wait to start! Only thing is, my neighborhood gym doesn't have barbells and I don't want to join a gym. Has anyone had success doing this at home or purchased a decent barbell set? I am totally new to lifting so I imagine I don't need anything crazy big.
I did it at home, but it was kind of dodgy not to have a squat rack. I don't think I could get the full benefit of the program because not having the squat rack made me more conservative than I otherwise would have been. Don't get me wrong, it was still an awesome workout.
I've done it while traveling and it was more difficult not having access to a full gym. I've recently started New Rules of Lifting Supercharged and I think it would be easier to do at home.
I did but missed having a squat rack and cable machine for rows and lat pull downs. I think my back strength wasn't what it could have been had I had them.
I had a bench, dumb bells to 50# ea, a Swiss ball, barbells and plates, and a pull up bar.
Like gt said, I think thee arre other programs out there that might better accommodate a home set up.
I don't think you would get the full benefit without a squat rack. Squats are a huge component, and no way in hell could I have held onto dumbells to do heavy squats with good form.
