I was reading another thread about this, was it ML? Maybe it was CE&P but the thought of putting solid oil in my mouth and letting it melt and swishing it around for 20 minutes, just makes me want to barf.
I saw this on P&CE. Honestly, I feel like I get the same benefits from drinking extra water and swishing with water after I have any food or non-water liquid in my mouth. It keeps your breath fresh and prevents those particles from just sitting on your teeth. Also, I don't have to sit around for 20 minutes trying not to gag while a gob of oil melts in my mouth.
I am hearing more and more about this lately, including the thread on P&CE. I think it's ridiculous and without scientific merit BUT, curiosity got the better of me and I tried it today. Once you get over the initial transition from solid to liquid, which is disgusting, it's not so bad. It's actually pretty tasty. However, this seems like such as waste of coconut oil. This will not be a regular practice. lol

Well, I'd fall back asleep for 20 minutes if I got back in bed. So I'd have to do it when i'm already up. But I'm not sure I could swish anything for that long.
"But what we do know is that oil pulling doesn’t draw toxins out of your body. This is because detoxification is a myth, other than what your body already does with the kidneys and liver. Just as Kinoki foot pads don’t pull toxins out of the feet, herbal cleanses don’t pull toxins out of your gut, and cupping doesn’t pull toxins out of your sweat glands, oil pulling doesn’t pull toxins out of the mouth. This is just basic, though incredibly popular, pseudoscience...
...So where does that leave us? With an old folk remedy that probably won’t harm you, might have some slight benefit and is in no way a miracle cure. If you want to pull oil and think it’s working wonders for you, that’s great. But you’d probably be better off rinsing your mouth with mouthwash and saving the oil for cooking a healthy meal."
It seems weird for people who believe in science to do this. It's like the tarot cards of healthcare.
I have meet some ladies at yoga who do it regularly for "proper oral hygiene". Based on their smiles it does NOT do anything for whitening. Two of the ladies have been doing it for years. I thought they were joking, they did not see the humor ;( I tried it once, I had to do it in 1-2 min intervals to keep from gagging. Have to admit it was harder to do than I thought it would be.
