I don't know if I have just had shitting luck or what the problem is, but in the last 3 years, I have had two laptops. My laptop still works sort of, but is so unreliable. Google chrome is always crashing. I have done the install reinstall, and it is finally working again. I can't seem to do certain things like get into tinychat. I also just bought a body media device, and I can't get it to sync. I will show you the message that pops up.
Am I just picking shitty computers? I hate to buy a new computer if I don't have to, but this is so annoying. Ideas thoughts? lol

What are you using the laptops for? I ask because I've had cheap (less than $300 each laptops) for the past 8ish years and I'm on my second. It seems like overkill to spend $$$ on a laptop if you are not going to use all the features. My current laptop was purchase brand new for $280 and has all the features I wanted and then some extras that are nice to have.
it HATES me! I spent extra to overnight the bodymedia too, and now it doesn't even work. lol I have no idea what it means when it says to adjust my network or firewall settings. I am not a pyromaniac. I have no idea what these means!!!

Are you running antivirus stuff every week? Do you use it to watch movies from different sites (not hulu/netflix/etc, but like when frozen was posted on the pirate website)? H takes care of my computer, but he rarely touches it. He's got it set up to run a few things every week and I've never had a problem.

I have the Norton installed, and I thought it did it automatically every night. I don't watch movies at all on my computer. I watch Netflixand such on my iPad. I am not computer smart, and used to have exh take care of these things. lol

Honestly Norton is probably the problem. If you are running windows 7 or newer the built in defender program is better than most 3rd party programs.
Macs are great for certain things but aren't for everyone and are expensive if you are only using it for basic things. I'm on my phone at the moment but I can find some great mid range laptops if you are interested when I get home.
Your laptop can probably be salvaged but if you bought a cheap laptop to begin with it probably has cheap components and was only meant to last up to a year.

Do you know if there is a way to turn off Norton? I just want to see if it works with Norton disabled. I have googled adjusting the firewall, and it is all gibberish to me. lol

I will ask H later what he has on our computers and send you a PM (or I might just have him type it out because I glaze over as soon as he starts telling me about his computer stuff haha).
I would try reformatting your computer. Starting it back at factory settings. I usually do that once a year. All different things collect on a computer so it's a nice refresh. But if you still have problems then it's time for a new one.
I shouldn't talk because I'm hard on my laptops but I've always added the accidental insurance and it's payed for it's self over and over. Haha! Dell is sending someone out on Tuesday to repair. Replacing my keyboard, fan, heat sink, a/c adapter, a/c prong, replacing SD reader.

This sounds like a good plan, but I have no idea what this means lol. Starting over at factory settings sounds like a complicated order.

It's not too hard. Do you have windows 7 or 8. I can help you figure it out. Once you find the program to start it then it's pretty easy to do. Just back up any docs, pictures, music and favorites first.
I think it would help you figure out pretty quickly if it's worth it to keep using or time to move on. It helps get rid of lots of crap that gets downloaded unknowingly.
I'm going to guess since it's your 2nd laptop in three years that you are running Windows 8. Since they have went to Windows 8 there is now a refresh or reset the system. You will want to reset the system so it wipes out everything on your laptop and goes back to it's original factory settings. To reset your PC from Microsoft website windows. You need to make sure the Windows 8 software is up to date. Needs to be 8.1 in order for these instructions to work, microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
Follow the instructions on the screen. If Windows 7 follow these instructions:
1. Click Start and enter Recovery in the search field.
2. Select Recovery Manager from the list when it becomes available. Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.
3. Alternately, click Start , All Programs , Recovery Manager , and then Recovery Manager . Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.
4. Click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next . The PC will restart and reopen the recovery manager.
Alternately, if Advanced options is disabled, click Next , and then System Recovery . The PC will restart. When the PC restarts, select the System recovery option and click Next .
If prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore program, click No , and then click Next .
5. When prompted, select the Back up your files first (recommended) option, and then click Next . Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. When prompted to Recover without backing up your files , please STOP before clicking Next . WARNING: This is the final opportunity to change your mind about recovering the PC and deleting all the files and programs. Once you click Next , the restore process cannot be stopped
7.If you are satisfied that you want to begin the recover process, click Next . The PC immediately begins formatting the hard drive and destroying all data.
