Never had it. I'm not too convinced but I'll give it a shot. I made a 1/2 sized one.
I followed wannabe 's famous instructions. It wasn't soaked in the gross soup so maybe it'll be good. I think that was also the first time i bought tator tots. Lol
I made it Duggar style: Ground beef cooked and then mixed with a can of cream of mushroom soup, covered by a bag of tots and then covered with shredded cheese.
DH & SS will eat the entire pan of it when I make it.
Verdict: ok, not life changing. Strangely addicting. This was light enough on cream of crap that it didn't freak me out. As I was eating, I still kept thinking the sodium content must be through the roof though, lol.
It was decent. Kind of like the concept of shepherd's pie but made w other stuff.
I added peas. I can't go veggie-less. And a salad.
I make it Duggar style. My family loves it. The first time I made it about 10 years ago, my DH, DD, and her friend ate the whole pan. I don't make it often - 1- 2x a winter, but when I do, I make a whole pan and it is gone so quick.
I have a great tator tot recipe but you have to have an HEB close by because it takes their 2step chili. Toast the tots and brown the ground beef add in the jar of chili and fresh pico. Put that on top of the tots and add tons of cheese.

I make it without the soup, just extra cheese between the ground beef and the potatoes (usually use french fries because that's what I keep on hand). Yum!

Tator tot hotdish is great! I love it. You could use ground turkey if you wanted instead of ground beef, or mix the two (I do that sometimes). You can also put whatever veggies in it you want to. Traditionally in Wisconsin people make it with green beans mixed in. I like corn, so I usually put corn in it. But really you could put anything you like, even more than one veggie if you want.
LOL at this entire post. i love that you think of me when it comes to tater tot casserole!
speaking of which, i made tater tot breakfast casserole this weekend. SO GOOD.
Recipe please.
Oh, and I have the following ingredients. Could I pull off a tater tot casserole? Ground turkey Ragu cheese sauce (like for mac 'n cheese) Tater tots Shredded cheese
God, when I type it out it looks pitiful. Maybe I have the ingredients for yoru tot breakfast casserole.
you could pull it off, although it would have a completely different taste to it because of your sauce. i actually don't know what it would taste like without the cream of crap soup in there, but i love that stuff so i never will. heh.
i totally winged the breakfast version. i whisked about 6 eggs with probably 1/4 cup of milk and poured it into a 9" round cake pan that i sprayed with some pam. sprinkled a handful of bacon bits all over, topped with shredded cheddar and tater tots. baked at 350 for about 35 minutes. it was perfection.
