Yes. In a heartbeat. I could do one movie and then live the rest of the year in solitude. I'd take ALL the vacations, buy a fabulous, private house, spoil my dog even more than now, buy my parents whatever they needed...it would be lovely. I wouldn't live in LA; I'd live in the mountains somewhere.
This would not make you a super star though.
Actors who are making $20 million a movie cannot go out of their house without being blasted by the paparazzi, Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, etc.
I think there are ways to avoid them more than some do. Most of these big name stars choose to live in/near Hollywood/L.A. and are often photographed on the most popular streets and going to the most popular restaurants/stores. I'm not saying it's 100% possible to avoid the paps, but I think it is possible to avoid them a lot more than some of the big stars.
There are some celebrities I only see photos of when they are attending the award shows or in LA. Most of them do not live in a secluded location, spending most of their time on their own property.

Yes, but the celebrities that are making $20 million are the ones that stay in the spotlight, the ones that know how to work the paparazzi; it comes with the territory, and the price they pay for making that kind of cash.
You can certainly be a celebrity and not be in the spotlight, but odds are that you are not making the $20 million a movie either.

I would be so awesome, they would pay me 20 mil to be in one movie and then I would never have to work again and could disappear into thin air
My answer stays the same even if I was constantly followed by paparazzi. I have no kids and if someone wants to stand outside a coffee shop while I read a book and sip coffee so they can snap a photo of me in my incredibly boring life, more power to them.

You can always do what Daniel Radcliffe did. He bought like 20 of the same exact shirt and wore it every day so every photo looked like it was from a single day, making them unsellable, lol!
This is brilliant and makes me love him even more.

Ugh, I'm conflicted because, yes, I'd love to have the platform that celebrity seems to afford you in our star-crazed culture, but now that I have kids, I just don't think I could do it.
Yes, of course. Do you know what matt damon's kids look like? Meaning, if you saw them at the park without matt Damon there, would you know?
Can't say this about Ben affleck's kids.
A lesson in understanding that ir is totally possible to remain semi-private in show biz. These stars parade themselves and their families in from of the paps and the limelight and then claim they don't have any privacy. But certain people are able to remain private for weeks and months at a time.
Matt is married to a normal right? I think that's a big thing. If people care less about the spouse it's easier.
Honestly I'd want to just jump to being like Meryl Streep instead of going through the process to get there. The money etc seem more worth it when you can do what you want. Painful process getting there.
I don't know if I could handle the negative comments and the tabloids. I am really sensitive and even the fact that something like GOMI exists for everyday bloggers scares me with what they say. Let alone all of my dirty laundry being aired on the cover of a magazine or haters blasting everything from my weight to my looks to my latest movie online. I don't think my skin is thick enough for that. But all the positives might make up for that (might) when Im on my private plane jetting off to my private island.
I would not want to associate with the biz, especially based on my experience with it. You could not pay me enough to give up my ability to walk down the street or go to the movies or protect my child from paparazzi.
I agree with this. I don't think you are just selling your privacy or your freedom. I think you are selling your soul a bit. Talent and hard work alone do not make someone a superstar celebrity. There is a whole other factor in there- the audience. I think this factor is part of what makes someone paparazzi worthy, too. In other words there is a whole lot beyond ones's control and I am not willing to give that control up.
