I got great gifts from my baby shower, but we were also team green so we didn't get a lot of excess clothes. What I think was least useful though, is my oodles of bath supplies. My kids have sensitive skin and can't use any of it.
I liked books and learning toys, I love the billions of blankets I have, I got lots of "gear" (bouncing chair, carriers, tub) which was really helpful. Diapers are great if they're doing disposable. Socks are just about the cutest thing ever, and I think the more socks the better.
When I go to showers I try to always get a practical gift and a fun gift. Or I package them together to make it cuter, like buy a bathtub and fill w/ wash clothes, soap, towels, etc. Or buy diaper bag and fill w/ diapers, wipes, burp rags, etc. Depending on who it's for and how much I'm spending , or if it's a group gift.
These are my favorite types of gifts. For my wedding, my cousin bought me a cakestand (registered), and then he added cake mix, a spatula, and frosting tips. I thought it was super creative and special.

Yes. Exactly. We got practically no registry gifts. A lot of stuffed animals, blankets, books, and clothing. All welcome, but... I dunno. I think people feel weird about buying 30 wash towels. Sigh.
This is why I went team green. I knew people would buy me clothes, etc, esp bc I had a girl!! and I didn't want that. Almost everything I got was from my registry, even the soaps that my kids turned out to be allergic to.
We got great gifts. I got lots of neutral onesies, blankets etc. Anything I didn't know if I wanted I returned and after Taylina got her I got girly things. I think by being Team Green we got some of our bigger ticket items.
