I'm so annoyed. I dropped my razor max in the toilet last September, which of course killed it, and I've been using my sister's old phone, Samsung Galaxy S. Like, the original one. It's slowly but surely dying on me. It freezes all the time, and if I use it at all, it kills the battery. I'm not due for an upgrade until June. I can get an iphone 4 for under $150. Should I just suck it up and get it?
I think it would be fine for a year or so, but as the newer models keep getting rolled out, apple stops doing updates for the older models and the apps, so yeah eventually You would have the same problems.

Just wait. Getting a 4 now is pointless, you'll be just as frustrated with it in a year when it starts doing the same because the os is too much for it
I have the 4S, DH who is really into technology had been using it until December when work gave him a 5. I have no problems with the 4S and all of the latest updates have been compatible with it. It also has FaceTime which I like. My battery lasts pretty much the full day as long as I don't play on it too much and keep apps closed when I'm not using them. Is is the 4 you can get for that price or the 4S?
That being said, if you can get a 5 for that much when you are due for your upgrade and it is the 4 (not the 4S) you would be getting now, I would probably wait and do that, because the 5 will work better for longer. Of course, I survived on using an ancient Nokia phone from October 2012-December 2013. It made calls and texts...it wasn't even a flip phone. 3 months is pretty doable in terms of dealing with a shit phone.
My H has the 4 but only because it was super cheap through VZ and because he didn't need anything fancy. I think the 4 would be just fine until you can afford to upgrade to something better. It has all the same software that the 5 has excluding some additional features. The iPhones are all very much alike anyway.
I have a 4 and it's fine for what I use it for (text, email, phone calls and a few games One thing that I made sure not to do was upgrade to the new iOS because I've seen it run very slow on my colleagues "older" iPhones.
I would say it is totally outdated because I just got a 4S this weekend. If I have it, must be completely outdated
I got it for free from Verizon and only upgraded from my 10 year old flip phone because we recently discovered that DH's 4S started actually getting reception in our house. I'll only be using it for calls and I don't use it much for that.
Dang people. I have a 4S and my husband has a 4. We can both update and our phones don't freeze. We have zero problems with them. It's not like we're using original cell phones from the 90's over here. And my first generation iPad is still fantastic, assholes! Lol.
We both still have a 4 and have upgraded the OS every time and we've had no problems at all. Battery life is fine too, but leaving certain apps running definitely runs down the battery faster.
But, if I were you, I'm not sure I'd spend $150 on it, I feel like there are probably better deals out there.
I have a 4S and it works just fine. If the plan is to get something to hold you over until your contract renewal, I think that would be the way to go. Then you can upgrade for like...a penny. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a 5, if you can get one way cheaper in 5 months.
If you do get a 4, make sure you don't do the ios 7 update. It wasn't meant for the 4's and older and will seriously slow them way down. It's what finally drove me to upgrade my 3GS to a 5C cause I did the ios update and it made everything soooo slow.
