So I have this 10 mile race in about 5.5 weeks. I'd really like to go sub-1:20, and I think that's a reasonable goal for me. How would you train for this? I'm currently doing 6-8 w/4-5 at tempo pace every week (tempo pace being about 7:45/m right now, total run pace averaging between 7:55 and 8:15). Weekly long runs in the 12-15 mile range, usually in the 8:55-9:10/m pace range.
If it were a shorter race I would just wing it. If it were longer, I'd be going a little slower and incorporating some pace work into my long runs. This seems like maybe a little too quick of a pace for that, especially as my long runs are longer than the race will be.
Gosh, I feel like it's hard to say with you because you are in one of those training periods where your body is responding fabulously and you're seeing beautiful gains. Maybe someone else will have more productive advice.
I would keep doing what you're doing. What's 10 @ 1:20? 8 flat? I think if you are working 8s w/5 tempo (maybe increase to tempo for 6 on the days you go 8) @ 7:55-8:15 you will bust right through 1:20, especially if you take a taper.

Yeah, just under 8 should do it I think, to account for the inevitable extra. What you say makes sense - guess I better keep on keeping on then.
