Just on his trunk - front and back - it's just little bumps and he says they're itchy. No fever or anything, just the rash. Pediatrician didn't seem concerned yesterday when we were there for his 2 year well baby, but I'd like to know what the hell it is.
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
so, this post sent me down the following rabbit hole:
that sounds like jonah's fifths disease...only that involves bright red cheeks. image search for fifths disease rash. all the pictures (ALL. for pages and pages) are of white kids with bright red cheeks. google "fifths disease african american." nothing. google "fifths disease in black kids." brings me to a yahoo answers thread where somebody says that people all over the world get it, so she is certain that "colored" children get it, too. i immediately start crafting my response to the use of the word "colored." i go to post it and realize that the "colored children" post was from six years ago. i thought about it for a second, and sent in my response anyway. maybe she gets email alerts. LOL!
and scene.
This right here is one of the reasons I love you.
And I was googling rashes and there are freaking NO photos of black kids and rashes. So he might have red cheeks, but he's so dark, how would I know??
I had a rash just on the trunk of my body in my early 20's. It has a funky name but they call it "the Christmas tree" rash because it feathers out on your trunk. It was viral and had to run it's course.
I've been putting anti-itch cream on him and he seems to be doing well. And the pedi didn't seem worried, so I'm just going to wait and see what happens. Weird as hell though.

I hate rashes. They always freak me out. So many random ass things can cause them. If the itching is bothering him can you give him a dose of Benadryl?

DS had pityriasis rosea over Christmas, how festive of him. It ended up taking a few weeks to go away. Does he have one or two larger spots? There is a harold patch to start that looks fungal.
Ollie had a rash just like that on his trunk and no fever and it wound up being strep throat. He seemed off though- tired, not eating much. If Freddie's acting fine then I'm sure you're good, just something to keep an eye out for. I couldn't believe it when the dr said it was strep because he didn't present with any of the regular symptoms.

I didn't see any larger spots, but I wasn't looking for them either. It looks pretty uniform.
Lurking from another board, but both my girls had rashes just like that more than once, and it was roseola. They didn't always get the fever first, just broke out in the rash, which lasted a few days but didn't bother them in the least.
floridakat, my daughter had roseola but with the fever, so I dismissed it because he didn't get the fever. I didn't know it could present without. Good to know!
