My dentist wants to run a test called TENS that maps my jaw and get an X ray then send those off to a lab that will make a mouthpiece the will be adjusted over time to get my bite to a place that's comfortable. Has anyone gone through this before? Did it help? He said I'd basically l live in the mouthpiece. Only taking it out to eat. Then once the bite is at a good spot, I'd get braces to fix an overbite.
I'm just nervous about it. It's $$$ and very time consuming.
I never had bite problems until a couple months ago and now to hear I need all this treatment is overwhelming
Get another opinion! I was tremendously helped with nightguard, a little bit of light Valium at night (at the beginning of treatment to calm everything down), Motrin and specialized physical therapy for jaw, shoulders and back. I'm a year out and now just nightguard and no pain. Also remember to follow the TMJ diet (no gum or hard chewy stuff)

I had severe TMJ and it was practically solved by physical therapy and a night guard. PT was especially helpful because they teach you everyday exercises and rub the muscles in your neck that exacerbate the problem.
