I think after this half, and maybe a tri this summer, I'm going down the Crossfit rabbit hole. Sooner if my office moves and I lose my beloved work gym.
A trainer at my current gym was talking to me this morning about his crossfit gym (where he's a trainer, not an owner). He was telling me about 14.2 and I started asking questions about the gym and I just love their philosophy. They're very open and supportive, have athletes everywhere from "trying to get in shape" to very competitive. It's owned and operated by a physical therapy PHD who works at Detroit Medical Center Rehabilitation Institute specifically with athletes. They don't push paleo and seem to really approach things through science - show me the study where X is true. They are certified in olympic lifting, which is something I've been wanting to get in to.
I'm really excited, I've been wanting to find a box but didn't like the other 2 local ones at all. This one is also very close to my house! It's newer and still establishing itself.
It's more expensive than my work gym (which is the best deal on the planet as far as I can tell), but not anywhere near as bad as I've seen others post about prices. They have like 4 levels of membership. It's also a very LCOL area, so it won't support high prices.
The new gym sounds really promising! Will you do cardio on your own or go to another gym for that?
Cardio on my own, run/swim/bike. I'd have to keep my membership at my community center for the pool and treadmill in winter/summer when it's icky out. But I currently maintain 2 gym memberships anyway.
It is likely that kickboxing would have to go permanently.

Kickboxing is the sport/class that you were already thinking about cutting out - am I remembering that right? I can't wait to follow your crossfit journey!

I'm 'temporarily' retired. My coach thinks I am coming back in the fall.

I think you will love it. Our box is a fun little community. Everyone looks out for each other and is very supportive. Plus I think you might be surprised at just how much cardio you will do. There are days that are just "metabolic" and all we do is run or jump rope or spin or burpees. Good luck!
Well poo! I just found a groupon for $75 for 2 months if unlimited crossfit. It's a little bit out of the way, but not unreasonable. But I'm not doing anything until my neck and shoulder have a diagnosis. Damn it!!

I'm in the same situation. I have a half next weekend and a 10 miler beginning of April...I'm wicked burnt out on running and my co-workers have been trying to talk me into CF for a while. I'm going with them for a trial session tomorrow...I'm sure I will love it and find a way to convince myself it's totally worth double what I'm paying for my current gym membership

Is there an expiration on the Groupon? Could you buy it now but not activate it for a few months?

I probably could. But worst case scenario I could need surgery. And my first appointment with the orthopedist will be in 3 weeks. Once I know what might be happening I could purchase. I don't want to waste any money.
