I recently rescued an English Springer puppy. I want to look into pet insurance for him, and my SIL told me about some discount that she got for hers being a rescue. Does anyone have any experience with this, or can you recommend a good insurance company to check out?

The three most commonly recommended are Pet Plan (which we use), Pets Best and Embrace. I don't know if we got a rescue discount - my S.O. researched and bought the plan.
Hm, we have Pet Plan and did not get a discount. But I wasn't aware that such a thing existed.
I do know that the rescue agency we used now offers a paid month (or 3?) of pet insurance with the rescues they adopt out, so perhaps it is something like that? It wasn't offered when we adopted our dog but I wish it had been b/c she turned out to be very ill when we brought her home.
We also use pet plan. It has been a lifesaver with our very active English Springer! It has pretty much paid for itself every year. I can't speak to discounts for rescue, but that would be cool if they did that.
As far as the rescue discount -- PetFirst advertises heavily on Petfinder.com and offers the first month for only $5 (but a fixed $15 a month after that). That might be what your SIL found.
From what I've googled, the top ones to go with (as far as fairly paying you for your claims): Embrace, Pet Plan US, Pets Best. (Ditto a PP). You can get quotes on all their websites. I think all of them give a discount for the dog being neutered, but the price really depends on your dog's age more than anything I think.
