My 5-year-old is also obsessed with Frozen. She also loves Lalaloopsy & Hello Kitty. Gift certificates for places like Target or Toys R Us are a lot of fun, too, minus the headaches it can cause parents as they agonize over just what to get.
Legos, Magnatiles, or a fort-making kit for the boy.
Crafts, legos, books for girls. I was just at a 5 y/o party, and the biggest hit for all of the girls was a Barbie. I was surprised! They all screamed & squealed.
go to the fisher price aisle and buy ANYTHING that says, "imaginext" on it.
I will second this. DS loves his Imaginext city and the accessories. I joke it's like a Barbie dream house for boys. He will spend an hour playing with it.
Lacing beads are another favorite. Melissa and Doug has a good set.
These are HUGE hits for my kid. She got some for her 5th birthday, and no lie, went and did a 1000 sticker jewelry box all in one sitting, alone in her room. She was obsessed. Still loves them.
For boys, I'd also say crafting stuff - maybe a puppet kit they make with stickers on a paper bag (obviously this would work for a girl too). Otherwise I'd say puzzles or legso (good for girl too) or trains.
my 3.5yo boy would rather chew through his own arm than do crafts. LOL!
see, as a mother of only girls, this is where I fail. I basically figured "I'm not going to be all sexist and suggest that crafts are just for girls. They do crafts at preschool, so OF COURSE boys would want crafting stuff at home." I'll go back to my craft and sticker infested, princess and glitter bombed bubble now.
