We are throwing my parents a surprise party for their 40th wedding anniversary. I want to put together a sort of "list" for each year of something to do with that number. For example:
1 - age of youngest grandchild 2 3- number of pets they've had .... 36- price in cents of a gallon of gas .... 40 - number of years married
Having a tough time coming up with "ideas" for each year. We've got kid and grandkid ages, price of gas and stamps, number US president. I am going to try some family members to get some info like age that they met, etc. Looking for more generic ideas (ones that I don't have to ask the parents for or answers can easily be found in a non-suspecting way).

What about the month and day they got married. Depending on the house number, you may be able to use their address. You could go with the ages they were when they got married.
Have they taken any really cool vacations with family or for other anniversaries? Like a vacation when they'd been married for 11 years to Florida. You could use that. Or the year they bought their current house.
Number of times they've moved/places they've loved, states or countries they've visited, number of kids and grand kids, number of presidents in their marriage, how any cars they've gone through
