I want to do a recipe tomorrow that calls for a crock pot. I have a crock pot, and I use it all the time. In fact, I have multiple crock pots. But none of my crock pots are the right size for this smallish recipe, and I'm trying to think of a workaround. Up in the attic I have a Le Crueset covered pot the my husband received as a wedding gift for his first marriage (so, 1985?) that has never even come out of the box. Could I do a crock pot recipe in that, in the oven though? I was thinking I'd put it in in the morning at maybe 300F and just start checking it after 4 hours or so. I'm thinking the pot is heavyweight enough that the heat of the oven will heat the pot just like a crockpot works, no? What do you think?
BTW, it's this recipe, except I'm marinating the chicken breasts ahead of time.
If you don't think this idea will work, maybe I'll just use the larger crock and add some whole carrots that won't be overcooked if they're in there all day, too.
I think you're right. A dinner with bacon is not a time to experiment! And I have loads of large carrots that will fill up some of the empty space, so I think it'll be fine. I have always wanted to pull out that Le Crueset, though, sitting in its box up there on a shelf. But then I'd have to find a place for it; better it should stay in the attic until I'm dead and gone.
You can put a smaller oven safe dish, like a corningware, inside a larger crockpot. I do it all the time when I need a smaller one, I actually read it on the nest years back

Genius! So, i'd put my covered corelle dish inside the heating part, you're saying? Then I'd cover that, too, of course, but I wouldn't use the stoneware crock piece. Right?
I put the corningware inside the entire crockpot- not just the heated part, put the crockpot together like normal, pop the smaller dish in and cover it. Works great

You'd use both. The dish goes in the crock piece. It doesn't always work though.
