Training plan for the week? Monday - 5 miles with marathon pace; Tuesday - off, Wed - 5-6 easy, Thursday - off or several easy, Friday - 4-5 with some at marathon pace, Sat - thinking about doing my first 20. Otherwise will push it to next weekend.
Any tune up or practice races on your calendar before the main event? Earth Day 1/2 in April. This is my one traditional race that I always do.
What is your favorite distance to race and why? Probably the marathon because it's so rewarding to finish one. I also really enjoy the half, and the training is more manageable.
Any AW's to share? (You have to have at least one!) It's 40* today!! And I opened new shoes this weekend. (My last pair of Wave Rider 15's)
So I'm not technically training right now... I'm trying to ease back in. I'm in the midst of a gym challenge right now too, so I'm getting a lot of in-the-gym bike miles (not ideal, but they have to be in the gym to count)
What race & when? Plan A: Andy Payne Marathon, Sept 14, and 24 the Hard Way ultra marathon (probably 6 or 12hr option-I don't know which is best) on Oct 25 Plan B: HITS marathon, Oct 12.
Training plan for the week? Getting a lot of bike miles in the gym (my team is 1st, but the 2nd place team is pushing very hard to catch us). I will try to run 3 miles tomorrow and probably Thursday, and I think I'll do 6 on Sunday. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday will be heavy on the bike miles in the gym (we must win!). I will ride my real bike at least once.
Any tune up or practice races on your calendar before the main event? Plan A: I have no idea on a tune up for the full... I guess the full is the tune up for the ultra. Plan B: I have done the spirit of survival half on the first weekend of oct for 2 years now. I'm not sure what to do if I go with plan b. A half on the weekend before a full isn't ideal.
What is your favorite distance to race and why? Full marathon. It makes me feel like an athlete. I enjoy the "you did what?!" looks from people, ya know? I do get thrills out of PRing 5Ks though. Idk if it's going to happen this summer or not.
Any AW's to share? (You have to have at least one!) I ran 3 miles 2x last week without any hip issues. I also found my shoes (brooks pureflow2) clearanced because a new model came out, so I bought 2 pairs and now I'm set for the year. Not running, but I rode my real bike for 11 miles in the wind on the river trails and successfully avoided riding into the river and hitting anyone. We'll call that a win.
Training plan for the week? This will probably be my most intense week of training. I'm nervously excited. M: 11 w/ 4X1200's T= 8ish with the jogging stroller, strength DVD, W: rest day, Th: 10 on gym TM, lower body strength, Fr: 8 TM or jog stroller (or combo), upper body and core, Sa: 5k race, Su: 18 w/ 14 at marathon pace
Any tune up or practice races on your calendar before the main event? 5k this weekend, may throw in a 10 miler the first w/e of April. It is close to my parents house and $10. How can I turn that down?
What is your favorite distance to race and why? Random, but I love metric marathons. Of course I love marathons, but I like how I can bounce back quicker after 16.3 vs. 26.2. After a half I feel like I want to run a little longer, so a metric is perfect. We need more of them!
Any AW's to share? (You have to have at least one!) I got to the track this morning! My 4X1200's were 6:25 to 6:30 pace, and OMG my legs burned. I tend to shy away from going all out, but definitely have the last few days.
What race & when? Gov Cup 6/14 and Air Force Marathon 9/20
Training plan for the week? Screwed up. We are traveling to be in my brother's wedding this week so any run I get in will be a win in my book.
Any tune up or practice races on your calendar before the main event? So far I have a 5 miler in April and possibly another half in May between now the June marathon.
What is your favorite distance to race and why? Umm, tough question. I suppose either 5k or full. I know, opposite ends of the spectrum. But with my last 5k I realized if I pace myself properly I have a chance at placing(and I did for the first time EVER that race!), which is super exciting. But I love the feeling of accomplishing a full.
Any AW's to share? (You have to have at least one!) We had beautiful weather yesterday! mid 60s and gorgeous. I can't wait for summer now.
biomaj5 - nothing wrong w/ easing back into it! Hope you win your gym challenge.
Oh we will! We've pulled out spreadsheets and calculated exactly how much we need to win. 60 miles per person for the next 2 weeks and it's ours. (For reference, bike and treadmill miles count as-is, classes are 5 miles each). They're going down.
Good morning! Anyone else really feel the time change on their workout this morning?? Let's hear how things are going this week... Today was brutal.
What race & when? 50k this Sunday. My first 'ultra' and I am super nervous since I haven't been able to train properly due to an injury (and I'm still not at 100%).
Training plan for the week? 3 today, 6 Tuesday, 5 Thursday, 4-5 Friday, rest Saturday
Any tune up or practice races on your calendar before the main event? I had a 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago but the weather was brutal.
What is your favorite distance to race and why? the 1/2 marathon. It's long enough that you need endurance but short enough that by the time you realize what you're doing you only have 5-6 more miles to go which is motivating.
Any AW's to share? (You have to have at least one!) I was running at lunch today at work and this guy was running and being super loud (I think he was trying to act like he was running faster by panting really loudly) and we were both running about the same pace and I wasn't even breaking a sweat. That's all I got.
AAM2012 - way to casually drop in & announce you're doing a 50K this weekend! That's awesome. I hope things go well for you. Make sure you report back. Hope the weather looks good wherever you're running.

Thanks! I haven't been as active on the boards as I should because I have been struggling (mentally/emotionally) thanks to piriformis syndrome. The weather looks like it may be slightly warm but the trail should be fairly shady and I'll be good as long as it's not raining
