N lost her first tooth yesterday. After last week's post about kids losing their teeth, I knew, KNEW, that I should go to the bank and get 20 gold dollars. But did I? No, I did not. And of course banks aren't open on Sunday, and even if they were, H was working all day and gone until 7 pm, so I had the kids with me and couldn't be sneaky about getting said dollars.
So what did I do after she went to sleep? I dumped out her piggy bank, sifted through eighty bajillion pennies and quarters (note to self, need to teach her how to roll coins) and find the ONE Sacajawea dollar in there. Trade out the tooth for the coin in a completely bootleg plastic baggie (because the cute little tooth pillow I ordered last week isn't here yet), and walla. The tooth fairy had arrived - and used the kid's own money for the prize.
She'll never know, but damn, not my proudest moment as a mom. And H was NOT helping with my guilt/shame.
I've been there. DD's first tooth fell out right before she went to bed. I had no cash and H didn't have cash on him either, so I waited until she was sound asleep, tip-toed around in her room, found her piggy bank and fished out a five dollar bill. Come to think of it, I still owe her that 5.
See it only hurts to do this the first time. Jack has lost three teeth and each time I have had to steal from his piggy bank for change. It gets easier lol.
I bought tooth fairy pillows last year. My kids were 4 and 2. lol. It was one of those moments where I happened upon them and knew if I didn't buy them then, I would never remember to when I actually need them.
