I have done plenty of "runs" on the treadmill from the walk/run/walk combo to a couple miles at a slow, flat pace here and there, but today's run was real. It was beautiful outside (and a nice break from the crazy winter we've had) so I grabbed my running shoes and my poor, neglected road ID and hit the pavement.
It was glorious. It felt so damn good. It was slow. Reeaallllyy slow, but it was amazing. All 3.22 miles of it. It felt so good to be back on "my" neighborhood route. I've been running the same 5k figure 8 around my neighborhood for years. It's funny how something as silly as your normal "easy" run that you get so sick of during training can be missed so much. I missed it - even the hills.
I know this sounds silly but it brought back fond memories from even stupid things like when I totally ate it on the uneven, and still not fixed sidewalk, 2 years ago during half training (still have those battle wound scars on my palm).
And the best part? It was 100% pain free! My knee is a little sore now (several hours later) but a good sore.
I focused more on strength training on this recovery and really haven't done much running at all. Today's run was much preferred over the crossfit / yoga /cycling routine I've been in lately. Anyway, I know this is super corny, but I know you ladies would understand so thanks for reading. (In full disclosure, I was actually thinking about you guys during my run haha). Thanks again for the support through my knee surgeries.
That is fantastic! I know what you mean about feeling nostalgic about "your" route. I've done my best thinking, worked through the hardest problems, and celebrated my best victories on "my" route. So happy for you and your progress!
