So I heard good things about Dexter and decided to give it a try. I watched the pilot episode of Season 1 and for some reason couldn't really get into it.
I love the concept, bad / good persona but I think it was the voiceove that threw it for me, it was off putting. I'm not a huge fan of TV shows where their keep talking in there head etc. It's a shame because I was looking forward to it after the trailer looked amazing.
Should I just keep watching on the off chance I get used to it?
Well, the voiceover think continues throughout the entire series, but I loved the show and think it would be worth watching at least a couple more episodes before you decide if it's too much of a distraction.
I would give it a few more episodes and see how you feel about it. The voice over didn't bother me but I hated Deb's character at first. She was such an annoying whore.

I've been obsessed with dex since the beginning. I just recently got all the girls at work into it and each of them hated the first episode. It takes a few to get into it to realize more of the story but when you do, there is no stopping the obsession!
I love the first season. It's the best. I'd say to give it a shot and if you're still not impressed by season's end then you shouldn't bother with the rest.
Well, to me, the voiceover is a key part of the story. knowing what's going on in his head. It's based on the way the original book was written. It wouldn't be Dexter w/o it.
So, yes, I'd try a couple more episodes. but that being said - it might also just not be the show for you. For all the raving about Breaking Bad, I just could.not.get.in.to.it. I gave it 5 episodes. No matter how loved a show is, it's not going to be for everyone.
Season 4 is the best by a mile. John Lithgow is so, so good.
I didn't quite get into the show right away but eventually I came to love it.
I saw a fellow at my gym on the treadmill next to me after finishing 4 and legit stopped my run bc I kept focusing in him. He was so horrifying in that role.
IIOY and elliemonster21, have you seen the interview with John Lithgow talking about the role and get the major side eye from his own wife after she watched it? If I remember correctly (I tried to find the interview but couldn't) they were watching together and she was just staring at him, completely creeped out and horrified.

There's no way I could have watched it if he were my husband. I wouldn't be able to sleep next to him ever again lol.
