How do some people get perfectly peeled eggs? If mine don't implode/explode in the pot, they get all shredded up from the shell sticking. Saddest boiled eggs you've ever seen, people. Something is going terribly wrong here, either I'm over-boiling or not putting them in an ice bath long enough.

Here are the instructions I follow and I usually get perfect eggs.
Put eggs in pot with cold water at least 1 inch cover. Put over med/high heat until it boils. Immediately turn off heat and cover, but leave pot on hot burner. Let sit for 15 minutes. Remove eggs and put in ice bath for 3-5 min. Done. Good eggs.
Put ice in the pot after you drain it and shake it all around.
yep. Also, put a tbsp or so of white vinegar in the cooking water. That makes it so that if the shells break mid-cooking, it coagulates the white faster so you don't have the hugeass mess.
Someone told me that adding salt to the water that you boil the eggs in will help them peel easier. I don't know if it works. I keep forgetting to try.

This is what I do. Important, do not use fresh eggs, let them sit in the fridge for a few days. Don't ask me why, but for some reason it makes a difference. 1. Eggs in pot, single layer with cold water about an inch over the eggs. 2. Slowly bring to a boil, let it boil for about a minute. Remove the pot and turn the heat to low, let it simmer for a minute. 3. Remove the pot and cover for 12 minutes. You can usually leave them for 15-20 minutes, I've never had them overcooked. 4. Either remove the eggs with a slotted spoon into another container or drain the water and replace with cold water. You'll want to keep draining the water until the eggs are cool to the touch.
For peeling it has always worked best for me to tap a flat spot on the side, roll a little and then the shell will come off in two pieces.
Place eggs gently in pot without crowding (there should be some space between them).
Add cold water to pot just to cover the eggs.
Cover the pot and bring to a rapid boil.
At boil, turn off heat, and remove pot from hot burner, leave lid on.
Let sit for 11 minutes for large eggs.
Pour off hot water and place eggs into icebath, stirring them around with your hand and adding more ice if necessary to keep the water cold.
Let sit in ice bath for 10 minutes, pat dry and place into refrigerator into bowl that has been in the freezer.
To peel, tap egg at both ends to crack and then roll the egg on its side away from you gently with your fingers.
Jesus! There's a real science to this. No wonder mine always look like shit. I usually -
Throw eggs in pot Fill with water and boil Go to the bathroom Pour myself a drink Check email, facebook, etc See what the kids are doing Fold a load of laundry Check email, facebook, etc How long ago did I start the eggs? I think they are done? Maybe they need 5 more minutes Pour boiling water out Throw some ice on them And peel
Vino- that's what I do too, then when I peel them I peel off half the white, leaving the sad looking yolk exposed. I get so pissed every time and vow to never make hard boiled eggs again. Then next week comes along and " hmm, a hard boiled egg sounds good right now"...
