We are currently booked to stay at the Almasevilla Palacio de Villapanes when we're in Seville in May.
But I'm looking at Orbitz, and we could stay at the Gran Melia Colon for $250 less (we'll be there for four nights, so that's $62 less per night)
Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels, particularly the Gran Melia Colon? Would be interested in hearing overall impressions, as well as impressions on location.
I have no idea, but we are thinking about a similar trip, so I am curious. Would you mind sharing your itinerary?
Sure... We'll be gone from a Wednesday evening through the following Sunday (so a redeye night + 10 nights). The plan is:
Depart NY on Wednesday evening, arriving in Madrid on Thursday morning.
Thursday through Monday: Madrid, perhaps with a day trip to Toledo if we have time. We will be staying at the Villa Real (4 nights)
Monday through Wednesday: Granada (taking train from Madrid), staying at the Hospes Palacio de los Patos (2 nights)
Wednesday through Sunday: Seville (taking train from Grananda), staying at the Villapanes or the Gran Melia (4 nights). Day trip to Cordoba while we're there.
I'm lazy and not looking up stuff on-line right now. Can you tell me what area both of those hotels are in? I don't know either one of them off the top of my head, but if you tell me general intersections, I can tell you if there's a big difference (I used to live in Seville).

Sure, thanks!
Gran Melia Colon is at Calle Canalejas and Calle Bailen (on Calle Canalejas)
Almasevilla is on Calle Santiago (no intersection really)
Okay, I am slightly more familiar with the area around Gran Melia Colon and it seems to be in walking distance of more places I would be inclined to go to (Plaza Nueva, shopping on Calle Tetuan, the bull ring and all the awesome "freidurias,"- fried fish shops- around there, the river), but that doesn't mean that Almasevilla is no good. I just don't know the Almasevilla area at all. Seville isn't all that big, so Almasevilla might still be in walking distance of Parque de Maria Luisa and the main drag that goes past the University of Seville, but it's hard to tell on the map.

Okay, based on this and some advice I got on MM that the Gran Melia is in a great area, I'm going to go with the Gran Melia. Thanks so much!
