H finally got the offer he's been working so hard for. He's getting his own store. It's happening quick. We just found out today and he leaves Tuesday! We'll be moving to the Raleigh/Durham area. I'm a little nervous about what's to come but I have 2 kids I need to keep my shit together for. Expect to hear a lot of complaining
Wow! Congrats! That sounds exciting! You'll be missed, though. Hope you plan to stick around on this board. I'm ready for a big change and H and I have a 2 year plan to move to Portland. It's daunting and exciting at the same time.
Whoa, Sara! How exciting! Congrats to your H! I'm sure things are going to be rough in the meantime, but we're up for listening to you vent. We'll miss you in FL but what a great opportunity for your family!
It's going to be pretty nuts for awhile. Every minute between now and the minute he gets on his plane is full. Then the real craziness begins. They are paying to put him up until we get everything organized and me and the kids get up there, but they would like it done as fast as possible obviously. We're shooting for 4 weeks. That's 4 weeks I have to fly up there (with or without kids, first concern) to help find a place, and come back and sell the car and figure out what we are going to do with the house. They will do all the moving for us so I only have to pack what we need for a few days time. But I have a lot of organizing and downsizing to do. Oh yeah and 2 kids. Ahhh.

NOOOOOOOOO.
I mean. Yay for him getting his own store! I WILL MISS YOUR FACE.
Moving is going to suck, for sure, but really that part is the least of my worries because the company is going to do everything. They said we can leave the plates in the dishwasher and the food in the pantry. They will pack everything. They will fly us up and tow our vehicle. They will even unpack everything in the new place and dispose of all the packing materials. Sweet huh?

Uh yes! That is awesome!
We will be sad to see you go but know this is a great opportunity for your family

That's really awesome! When we moved from DC to NYC my H's firm paid for our movers, and they packed everything for us...they literally even packed the trash in the trash cans. It was so nice. But, they didn't unpack for us, and I hated that part because since I didn't pack anything myself, I had no idea what was in each box so unpacking was really unorganized. But dude, they'll do that for you!!!

That moving deal is sweet Sara! That will help you out a lot I'm sure!
There is a mom on my August 2013 board who lives in Raleigh/Durham and one moving there this summer. I could put her in touch with you if you're interested. Plus there's Jenn Merritt, hopefully she can help you a bit with getting to know the area.

Yes I'm pumped about the help moving! I think we found good renters too, they're coming to look on Monday. 5 people coming to look at the car tonight. Things are falling into place already.
Also Kim yes I'd love if you had the girls you know in the area pm me. I'll take all the advice on areas I can get and the more mom friends I can meet the better!
I have been in touch with Jennifer and we're excited for our first get together. Plus she gave me her first realtors info so that's great too.

Glad you were able to get in touch with her. It will be nice to ave a familiar face up there.
Yay about things lining up as you could hope. I hope all of this makes for a smooth transition. Doesn't B get a company car now too?
Congrats Sara! I know you've been talking about this move for a while it's exciting and scary at the same time! Are you looking to buy right away or are you going to rent while you get familiar with the area?
As you know, we've been trying to get out of Texas for quite a while. My h has been applying for jobs and he got a tentative offer in Tampa. However, he was not aware of the pay scale at the time of appliciation and the position pays 40% less than what he's paid now. It's still with the federal government so he wouldn't be giving up his pension but reluctantly I think he's going to turn down the job. Ugh. If only it paid more.....
But our next best hope would be a job in the Keys hes applied for. He's in the running with 5 other guys but it will probably be a few months before he hears anything. It would be a Pay increase by about $25k but have you checked out the home prices in the keys? Mobile homes go for $300k. We would be POOR.
Anyway, congrats again! It sounds like a good move for your family hopefully the moves goes smoothly!
Lauren yes he does! And they pay for the insurance for him and his spouse. I'll still have to pay for property for my vehicle but I can't imagine that will be much. So we're selling one car (thanks for the Facebook share:) ) tomorrow ASAP once we get the missing title from the dmv. We've had 5 people look at it and 2 offers we've accepted so the first one to pay it gets it. That extra money will help out with the move.
Kathy that stinks that it's such a pay cut and I hear ya about a higher cost of living. We were just considering an offer for a lateral move to Naples and while we really can't afford to sell the house on his current income we said we would take the offer because you don't get anywhere without taking chances. But I was sooo stressed out. As far as cost of living I was also scared to get the offer to go to Miami. The GM salary is the same based on store volume and Miami would me so much more expensive to live, especially because I would 100% have to pay for private schools. Also I'm scared of Miami. Ha.
So the move to Durham is perfect. It's a huge salary difference, the company car allows us to sell the Corolla for extra funds until the first bonus check, and the company shares are enough for us to have a decent retirement as long as the value stays exactly where it is today.
Now I just have to say goodbye to all my friends and family.
So far so good. Keeping busy. Yesterday I got the attic cleaned out and took 20 bags of leaves to the curb for pickup. I got old kids clothes to consignment. Got exterior paint for the painters and interior to patch holes in the walls. Today I will cancel Y, stop off and pick up a couple frames to surprise H for his hotel, trip to Verizon to return set top box, and trip to post office. Then tonight I babysit for 1 friend and tomorrow I babysit for another. They'll both return the favor so that will allow me some time with no kids to get some other stuff done.

You are super productive. Best of luck in this new adventure ❤️
I found out that I go up 30-1st for house hunt, and the moving company will be here to move us 2-4. And we're gone. I have pretty much fine what I can do. But I need TVs off the wall, internet modem unhooked and returned ( H has everything wired through the attic and I to a "network closet". Way beyond my skill level). And I need to get together a lease for our renters. I'm going to have to pay people to do these things I think.

Hmm. Is there any way for you to transfer services to your renters?
