This will probably seem silly to the marathoners I'm the group, but I'm worried about a race I have this weekend. I've never run farther than a 5k (run it 2-3 times a week max) and I'm running a 4m race this weekend. The excitement of the race will push me through, right? I feel so drained after just 3m that I'm not sure how I'm going to eek out an extra one.
I had a 5k on January that was suddenly changed to a 5 miler. I had been doing 3-4 mile runs before that. The adrenaline of the race will push you that last mile!!

You can do it! Up until 3 weeks ago I had not done more than a 5k. I did a series that was a 3m, 4m, and 5m races over 3 Sundays. I just ran a bit slower to start out for the 4m and 5m races and did pretty well in my opinion. I figured if I started out a bit slower about 20-30 secs behind my 5k race pace I could make it and kicked it up a bit the last mile of each race.
I sure hope I can hack it. All the hills are at the end of the course which just seems evil. My husband lined up a babysitter since we're both doing it so at least I won't have the stroller to contend with like I do during the week.

You can definitely do it. Just start out slower than you typically would and pick up your pace at the end if you're still feeling good. Good luck and let us know how you do!

Stroller=resistance training. Take it away and I'm sure you won't even notice the extra mile!
You've absolutely got this, no question. Don't go out too fast, the first mile make sure you dial in at X pace where X=a very comfortable almost too easy mile. Then let the legs go.
