We are planning to go to Ireland and Scotland in Sept for 8-10 days. I found sceptre tours that appears to specialize in these countries. Has anyone used them? We were, also, thinking about booking an escorted tour so we did not miss anything. we are in our 30s but do not want to be the youngest people on an escorted tour.
When we went to Ireland years ago (2002) we booked a package through TravelZoo that used Sceptre. I think they're pretty much the name of the game in Ireland. We got our flights, a car, vouchers for B&Bs, and then a couple nights in specific hotels out of it. It worked fine for us and was a crazy good deal, but this was the early days of planning travel using the internet, so I'm not sure if they're still useful now.
We sort of did an escorted tour last year in New Zealand, but it was a guided hike. There were a few other couples our age, but even hiking 10 miles a day most of the people were in their 50s. Unless you do a Contiki tour or something geared to younger people you'll likely be the youngest on the tour.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
We used Sceptre for our Ireland honeymoon. We did not do an escorted tour, but we booked our car and hotels with them. They got us really good deals and some amazing hotels.
