So my laptop is getting old and not so slowly dying now. I have picked out my new laptop but it comes in two options- one has 4gb of RAM and the other has 8gb of RAM. All other specs are the same. As a person who basically just watches movies and multi-tab browses the internet, do I really need 8gb? For comparison, the extra 8gb takes the computer from $750 to $900.
I would get the higher amount of RAM, personally. My laptop has 6 GB, which is generally OK for Windows 7 + light gaming (old games) and lots of internet browsing. But we have a PC (also Windows 7) that only has 4 GB and it's kind of a sluggish beast.
What kind of laptop is it? RAM is usually pretty easily to buy and install yourself, so you may be able to get an equivalent amount of RAM for less and do it yourself. I've done this before (and I'm FAR from tech-savvy). I haven't priced RAM in a while so I have no idea how much 4GB is going for right now. Or you could go with 4GB and if in a year or so you think you need more, look into adding it then.
Hmmm….just took a quick look on Amazon and I'm not sure if the RAM can be upgraded or not. If you're buying it from someplace like Best Buy you can ask the Geek Squad guys.
Definitely hey as much ram as possible. What's the warranty on it? We've gotten Sonys at work before and found their customer support to be pretty rotten, but that's at an enterprise level vs personal use.
Why did you choose this system vs an HP, Dell or other?
Buying a computer can be tough, I hope you really like what you get!
My old laptop is a Sony Vaio and I have had no issues with it and it's held up to a lot of crap over the last 7 or so years. I figured I'd stick with what I know to be a decent product. Change is hard for me, lol.
I have no clue what that is and cannot seem to figure out if this laptop has it. I am pretty computer dumb other than cruising the internet type stuff. I did see that the 4gb is not expandable beyond that. It also does not have a CD/DVD drive. What is up with that?
